Love Cricket, Hate the 16.4

was AI Jos Buttler walking back to his bowling mark 😄

Now as someone who was quite the supporter of the Hundred previously i think this could be the year its jumped the shark, Teams that were there have totally lost their identity and fan base they managed to get is almost starting from scratch again..

My daughter was a Superchargers fan, we had the purple shirts and hats to prove it, "Dad i hate that orange shirt and the new name" asked her if she was bothered about going, (weve been to at least one game every year) "Nah not really"

Like many, I fear what will happen now the ECB have got their 30 pieces of silver.

Nothing will change this year (apart from a few team names) but the TV contract is going to be the first big issue when the current deal ends.

I just don’t think us Brits buy into franchise shite the way fans in other countries do. Especially not with the mass Indian involvement now, because for most of us it means more to us to have a connection to locality or some sort of historical significance than anything foisted upon us by the Indian tech-bro shithouses.

What does an elephant have to do with Manchester? That’s of course before the ridiculous city based promotion which alienates the majority of Lancastrians.

The sooner this competition implodes, the better for the sake of the sport in this country and I’m not just talking county cricket.

Moreover, the Indian influence upon world cricket is bad news.

I can seriously see counties going bust if action isn't taken.

The counties themselves recently had a secret meeting so they are obviously bricking it.

Hear hear. I can't wait either. Sooner the better for me.

One can imagine what would happen if they did that in football. Combining Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough for example and calling it North East Plonkers. There would be a riot and either fighting every match or no-one would turn up. Probably the latter

What the f*ck does an Indian elephant have to do Manchester? Or Supergiants for that matter?

From memory, the basketball team that used to play out of the G-Mex (or was it the Nynex?) were called Manchester Giants - that was a pretty cool name. Putting ‘super’ infront of an already ‘large’ word just make it sound like a cigarette brand. Which is quite apt, since the whole format was dreamt up on the back of a fag packet.

I thought the Manchester hundred franchise did a decent job when they first started of linking the brand with the city by using the worker bee which you see a lot on anything related to Manchester. Now they have just abandoned that by using the exact same name, logo and strip as the Indian franchise which to me shows that they are solely aiming for the Indian market. I've only found out that the reason all the franchises are called the SuperGiants is because the Indian billionaire owner wanted his initials SG in the team name

What an egotistical prick. (The owner, not you SS ;) )

As for the worker bee thing, it’s a nice idea but it still massively alienates the vast majority of county supporters. It should never be about Manchester and in fairness to most comments I’ve seen on the socials, Manchester based Lancastrians are saying the same.

I haven't seen much publicity about the 16.4 this year.

Maybe the ECB dont care now and Sky will probably soon lose the rights, so I guess why bother?

And the counties voted for the Hundred as well. At a time when blast attendances were at record highs. I wonder if they would do the same again knowing what they know now.
