Geertruida

Does he improve the team?.....yes!
Is he worth 18m?...... absolutely!

Any of the lads worried about a lack of game time shouldn't be that worried next season. More games will require more rotation, along with the inevitable dips in form, and injuries.

I hope he signs on.

I would agree if we are rolling in money and dont know what to do with it.If however we have just enough to buy quality attackers then off he pops for me.

He started 17 games this season for us. I know that number was helped by AFCON, but he played a part in 30 games over the season. He could surely expect to start a similar number with us in the Europa League next season.

The problem will be if we get a staring right winger then he ends up behind Hume in the pecking order. He does have the highest pass success rate in the entire team and he has played Champions League football the previous two years, so it's reasonable for him to want to be a starter. I can't quite see him starting for a better team in the Premier League though?

The problem will be money and how much of it he's paid, let's be honest.

But all of this was agreed on within the loan to buy agreement I would have thought. Its purely down to him on whether he wants to play for Sunderland or not now by the looks of it
Been told he was was massively frustrated earlier on in the season for not getting a chance and rightly so. He’s loved his time at Sunderland and under the right conditions he would definitely sign!
Especially now we have European football it’s a no brainer!

yep not surprised with this at all and Europe will make the decision easier or harder for him whichever way he goes....

I remember listening to a pod the last couple of weeks and it mentioned David Moyes trying to buy players, and David moyes had said he couldnt believe how many players turned him down because of no european football (not just champions league)

We are ain a very good position for premium player recruitment imo

Imo I don’t think it will come down to money. He’s an excellent player who will be looking for regular first team football somewhere to bolster his chances of adding to his international caps.

At pretty much anytime in my Sunderland supporting lifetime he’d be a shoe in here but unfortunately for him (not us) he’s incredibly not the best right back or centre back in the squad.

Having left Feyenoord and then Leipzig in search of a first team place I think he’ll reach the conclusion that he’ll need to move on again to nail down a first team shirt somewhere.

I’d love to keep him mind !
I think that this is a somewhat idealised view of what the prime motivations of a professional footballer are.

Club and International recognition are obviously very nice things to have, but the amount of money accumulated in the bank at the end of each week/month/season/career, is a prime mover (see the flow of players going to the recently developed leagues in the Middle East).

I believe that Geertruida was the third highest earner at SAFC last season, behind Xhaka and Mukiele, regardless of the vagaries of the team selection. Apparently somewhere around £100k per week. Whilst there are certainly some Champions League qualified clubs who could match that, there wont be many and not all of those will be in the market for a Geertruida.

I would hope that the offer of maintaining his earnings and the seemingly growing realisation by Le Bris that Geertruida brings something exceptional to the team, would be persuasive in getting him to sign a long-term deal.

Mind you I don’t think the European Conference would be a big attraction to players.

Sorry if SEB but it looks like he is training with the Netherlands squad (this is from yesterday)

He’s in the couple that’s on the reserve list.

Good job we got Europa then 🤣 it’s not champions league but it’s way better than the conference.

I hope he signs buth e's not better than Mukiele at RB though. Not defensively or possibly more important for us going forward.
I think Mukiele is an excellent right-back and it would be a marginal call to choose between Mukiele and Geertruida in that position. However, Geeretruida's presence enables us to have Mukiele at centre-back, where he also excels. Having both in the team seems to work admirably. Given Heertruida's own abilities at centre-back, the two can interchange and cover for one another during games. I think the potential for the development of an excellent partnership on the right-hand side of defence is there in the making.

Mukiele doenst have the defensive
discipline to play right back for us he just thinks he’s playing internash with his mates

Yes also Hume drops in and Gerty was pushing into midfield it works really well mukiele still gets forward from centre back as he’s getting cover all the time

Le Bris doesn’t really work like this.
Picks players for certain opponents and tactics. You could choose from LG. ND and TH for right back but no doubt we’ll play 3-5-2 in certain games.

Anyway, I wouldn’t hesitate to sign him.
He’s practically picked the same team and formation all season only changed due to injuries what ya on about

No I’m saying he would be my pick

I like Reinildo-Alderete-Mukiele-Geertruida because it gets Mukiele’s pace in the middle

More than happy to put Ballard in particularly as you say when we’re expecting certain types of attack or defence that he’s better suited to

It’s good to have a few options where the quality doesn’t massively drop
