Raheem Sterling

Without wanting to sound like too much of an amateur psychologist, I suspect that his binge drinking/eating earlier in his career were also linked to mental health struggles but the Mayweather loss definitely amplified it.
Yeah, I know what you mean. If you wanted to delve into it there's a case study there around his need to prove himself as the man of the people, how accessible he made himself to everyone, the binge drinking then the comedown after the loss. It's very complex but that's the point, it wasn't just 'felt down because of cancer'.

Even with Sterling, his dad was murdered when he was 2. Emigrated to the UK, mother worked all hours to provide. Grew up within walking distance of Wembley and became one of England's top players. But was abused for years from a young age, was hounded by the press and had lies printed about him fathering millions of kids when he'd been with the same lass since he was a teenager, had FOOTIE IDIOT and OBSCENE RAHEEM printed on the front pages because he bought his mam a house and sent a private Snapchat to his mates about it when Foden was 'Family Man Phil' for doing the same. Was at the very top then his career nosedived overnight, was in the Chelsea bombsquad etc and doesn't look like he'll ever get close to that level again. I've read before that Rafa Benitez (I think) had a theory that footballers are only capable of playing around 500 games before their body gives up on them and you can trace Sterling and Rooney's decline back to when they hit 500. Think a lot of sportspeople must have addictive personalities to get to where they are and struggle when their carer is over, it must also be tough when you're still relatively young but aren't capable of performing anymore and are cast aside.

No excuse for driving under the influence. But you can understand possible reasons that might lead to people doing stupid things without excusing them.

Sorry like but if he thinks he's had a couple of tough years he's living in a f***ing dream world. He's a multi millionaire. People have had cancer, been made redundant, lost their house and all kinds of other real shit. The bloke has had a dip in his career. Big deal.
Mental health doesn't check your bank account and leave you alone because you have a few quid.

My sympathies go out to the lad and I hope he gets the help he needs.

Doesn't matter how much money/ fame/ education you have, or had if that black dog of depression visits and follows you.

Tim Carter, Dale Roberts, Hughie Gallacher, Gary Speed, Justin Fashanu are among those who committed suicide because of depression.

I suffered from depression for almost four years and I lost two brothers to suicide.
Luckily for me, I have a wonderful wife who sought out the help and support I needed to get me through it.

Let's hope Sterling, and others, have the strength to seek out those who can help.
Post in thread 'RIP Ricky Hatton' RIP Ricky Hatton

Well pointed out 👍

As it's the Sun, I hope this witness account is being exaggerated as thank fuck he hasn't injured anyone else.

What’s the difference between Ricky Hatton using drugs and struggling with his mental health and Raheem Sterling using drugs and struggling with his mental health?
Hatton didn't drive to rehab unlike Sterling

Remember it's just a dark joke

If the lad retired now still a great career. Without them saying sounds like cannabis in the car legal where he's at and nothing in his system.

Not my favourite player but he's done loads for charity throughout his career hope he sorts it out.
Cannabis is class B. More likely to be nitrous oxide (laughing gas) which is class C. Probably seen the canisters in his car and he’s refused a drugs test. Lucky not to have killed someone.

What's crazy is how much easier I'd imagine it being driving on cannabis than on balloons. Like, balloons just pretty much switch your brain off, albeit temporarily

1. He was arrested in the UK, where cannabis is illegal.
2. He evidently didn't have cannabis on him, as it's a class B drug.

A good mate of mine recently committed suicide. He had everything. Kids that worshipped him and are extremely talented. A great job. Loads of friends.

He's now gone because morons like you think there's a hierarchy to these things and people like you think its acceptable to pass judgement.

Comments like this are so beyond helpful its not true.

An absolute disgrace that this comment is still here and has not been removed by moderators.

Footage available now not good
Video wouldn't play on DM website for me but this is a tweet. That is shocking video as what was he like before it, and after as apparently he drove the wrong side of the road once he got off the M3. Again thank fuck nobody else was injured. This one reply though 🤪
