Europa league - impact on city

The SOL being on the North side of river

We need a developer to invest and build a mega sized Hotel on the sea front . The current offering is not up to it and the newest one is The Seaburn Inn (next to the Stack) just too small .

It could have been 8 floors high and would have been a feature of the sea front offering fantastic views out to sea and busy all year.

Thats why so many away fans stay at Newcastle .... The hotel offering here isnt good enough ..

The residents are notoriously open to stuff like this along there, should be a doddle

i'd love the council to put some sort of interactive map together, showing:

-the stadium
-metro stops
-keel square
-pubs
-restaurants
-the beach area
-the footbridge
-hotels and B&Bs

and put information on like which direction to the airport on the metro and journey times etc.. and journey times to walk from one place to another.

i know google maps can do this, but a specific one would be better

could easily send it to away fans (european and domestic) and show exactly how good the city is for away fans. having done almost all of the 92, sunderland away must be in the top 10 for all things considered above.

You’d hope so but at present the new Reform Council are focusing on putting up more cheap St George’s flags, banning pride and debating how often they should recite the Lords prayer during meetings.

Hopefully though, the club will be shithot on this stuff and will heavily work with local business

Can you imagine an app with an interactive map of Sunderland/ Roker - be able to toggle on bars , cafes, restaurants, hotels , venues , obviously the stadium , museums, galleries etc .. with public transport on there beaches , parks etc .. and you can click on each thing and it tells you the crack about each place . Ideally for free . Would really showcase how much the city actually has

Mate, it would be class. I do think the club will do something mind

Isn’t that the same as what Google Maps does? Even tells you the bus routes if you click on a bus stop icon. Certainly shows all of those things you mention, and more if you search specifically for one of them.

Aye it does but I don't think it particularly stands out on Google maps just how many pubs and restaurants there are , and exactly where the metro stations are and the beach etc...

You'd have to specifically search for each one

We need a tourist friendly one that highlights keel square , park lane, sheepfolds, Roker beach etc... so people can easily see the main areas , then pins for all of the bars and restaurants etc... it would really show how concentrated things are

Google rely on the business to register where they are I believe

Spring and Summer is bloody lovely in Sunderland, I dont care what anyone says , particularly the sea front. Winter , well not as much , but that probably goes wherever you are in UK.

What I mean is if you open Google maps now and type in Sunderland, and you'd never been before , you would have to do a canny bit of digging and typing in and searching around to figure out the layout etc... a dedicated tourist one with just tourist stuff on would immediately show you the stadium, Roker , keel square , the town, pubs etc .. 99% or stuff on Google maps like hospitals and hairdressers and car washes aren't relevant to away fans visiting the city for a weekend

For the record, I agree. Google is pretty ad hoc

How much will a EL campaign bring into the city coffers

Look north often rambled on about the economic impact of European football on Newcastle and of course the wider region and the good PR it develops

Seen nowt about same impact on Sunderland
Will nexus be planning metro maintenance on EL nights?

More benefit to Newcastle and their airport, and all of their hotels and bars/restaurants .
We have none of this.
