Full Standing for Europe

This 100%. I may be looking through rose tinted glasses but very rarely has the SOL atmosphere got any where neat that of Roker Parks best days and especially nights.

Best atmospheres at the new ground were Sheffield United play offs and Newcastle around the turn of the century, but that's a long time ago now. Society (and it follows football fans) has changed a lot since then.

People who are getting into football grounds these days, particularly in the top division, generally aren't built for making a good atmosphere; they're generally more interested in safety, making sure the bogs are clean, the pies are decent, nobody puts a toe in the aisle and the paths outside.

Football clubs in England can't have it both ways. If they're gonna pander to that sort of fan then you're just not gonna get decent atmospheres in football grounds. If they want to change it and improve the atmosphere then they're gonna have to put measures in places to make it more attractive for the working class lads who don't always follow the rules (and a few lasses) and make it less attractive for the health and safety types who are obsessed with the rules. That's it. Entertainment or a passion?
