Better signing destination than the visitors

I've a feeling that we'll be bringing in players the mags (and most of us) won't even have on the radar. A step up (if possible) from the signings of last summer and I also think we may very well break our record fee again if the right player is available/buys into the Projekt.

Who we sell/release/loan out will be fascinating too as the need for a squad that can be rotated but remain effective and capable will increase IF we want to be able to have a serious crack at Europe, reinforce the team adequately and to maintain our PL position.

Two English teams this season have already shown that both European cups are readily winnable but we must ensure any progress that way isn't impinging on PL status.

The visitors imho will continue to be targeting yet more expensive signings, as is their way, to reinforce their 'big klerb' schtik. It's always been like that since Sky invented fitba. The headlines is more important to them than anything else. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't. But they seem incapable of turn from that route and the expectations of the orcs massively influences this. It's a huge part of their Jawdee Nashun ideology.

Their fans base was taking the piss out of most of the signings we made, "forainers nee wans hurd of man" "French reejects", "aul cum from shite leagues" "nee one elss wanted tham" et al.

I'd wager they'd wish they had some of our so called "rejects" in their squad now that they've been utterly humbled!
I reckon the Mags ,and others, will have a very close eye on who we're in for this year and there might be a couple of last minute counter offers . They know were scouting very well and theyd be daft not to monitor it where they can . The seagulls follow the trawler.
Need to keep our cards very close to our chest

Lets be honest 3 or 4 seasons ago they were much more attractive having been taken over by very wealthy owners and they were on an upward curve...but they havnt kicked on and they dont have anything much to offer .....players should be wary about Howes position / ability to manage at elite level
We on the other hand are now similar to them a few years back but have the advantage that our wealth is not Saudi tinged nor are we viewed as a sports washing project together with the fact that our management and ownership structure is multi national. I would also argue that we have formed an identity that is greater ( to outsiders ) than theirs. All of this should make us a more attractive proposition
I have to chuckle when I see Thiaw described as the only unreserved success out of last year's window.
Tbf he has probably been the best out if a bad bunch . Botman and Burn have definately gone backwards this season gone

Tbf we have been very good at that ( re cards thing ) but why would our potential target prefer to go to Tyneside if that situation occured ....all things being equal ?

Agree, I don't think it'll be just the mags doing what you're suggesting too. I'm hopefully we have deals well advanced even before the window opens.

Your final point 100%, might also pay to sow some disinformation and false links to the msm to distract from real targets.

And even he seems to have gone backwards since he signed.

This couldn’t ever happen at this moment in time.

On the other thread, Mag Milhouse spenk said that they are a better team than us.
Why would a better team go after the same calibre of player?
Surely we should be aspiring to Mag-level players, and the Mags should be aiming for Man City-level players?

We must be getting ideas way above our station.

Unless… he was talking shite, and the Mags have a squad of overrated, self-aggrandising dross?

Realistically they can still likely offer more money than us. But other than that we are the better option for this season at least.

This!

The problem with the mags is they want to play with the big boys, we don't as we look to be one of the best of the also rans without delusions of grandeur.

They just don't have the finances to compete at the top and probably never will as it's took them pushing the financial limits to get where they have. They can only milk the fans so much, which is part of the reason they've grown financially. That may fade in time if they win nowt and stagnate and people just don't want to pay top dollar any more. They also self inflate their sponsors/adverts. If PIF didn't pay 'themselves' for shirt/sleeve/ground etc then they wouldn't generate the same revenues from a 3rd party.

There will come a point where PIF stop putting money in like that and the £25m Sela shirt sponsor has now ended yet there's no new one yet. Google tells me that Hopkinson fella is looking at £45m but I doubt they'll get that after the 'back to reality' season they've just had and being out of the Champions League. Globally, NUFC don't have anywhere near at all the same amount of eyes on them like the big clubs.

It was clear last season, that no matter how big the mags think they are, they can't compete with actual big clubs when it comes to attracting players. It's clear some of their fan base are deluded and think that most players would want to come to them no matter which other club is in for them.

One thing is for sure is that last season they had Champions League after finishing 5th and winning a cup, yet they still couldn't land players they wanted. Whereas this season has fell flat on its arse, the Man City wannabee dream is just about over, players have shown signs of not being happy and they've not really pushed on isn't as an attraction to players as last season was.

Aye they may get a player going there instead of to us but who cares? Overall I don't think we will be looking at the same level of players they would like. They can't afford to go out and the players they do need to push them to the next level so will look more at buying potential rather than proven unless they shift more of their valuable players.

Theyre not equal though , they'll offer more brass and accept a bit less than 100% connection . That being the case though, if they do pip us to anyone they've done us a favour

Probably fish in different waters, but they'll definitely offer higher wages, whereas we'll tell them (with plenty proof) that we won't stand in their way when a big move is on the table for them.

Wait and see what happens in the summer, suspect they are still at least a price bracket above us for most signings.
