Old badge tattoo

This is off an old strip therefore official.
That's the boy 😎 My first shirt was the Nike 1984 home shirt. Got it from the shop in Jackie Whites market for my birthday. I can remember pacing up and down impatiently as my Auntie sewed the badge on, it was a slightly updated version to this one, not as good, but I still loved it. I was only a bairn, can anyone remember if the adult shirts came this way? or was the badge already sewn on?

Cheers, I’ll have a look
The Sunderland patch tattoo Bethany did was superb, on the post I seen she said she would do more badges but not this one as was unique to the guy who asked for it, not sure how how the safc badge can be claimed by one person!

If she won’t do another and it’s a patch style you’re after there’s a guy called david jay kai tattoos is Musselburgh does amazing work, 18 month waiting but worth it I think once you’ve seen his work.

Trying to get this viet tattoo lad to do a combo tattoo for me to inc the black cst same as onnthe stadium with the 2 badges either side and til the end.
Like when you rip the skin back and its inside you.
Its for a git big one on me back.
Haway must be someone on here can gis a design.
I'll buy you a pint

I remember buying a home shirt from the club shop at Roker as a kid, getting it home. I think it was that same Nike kit. I opened the packaging and two badges fell out. I can still remember that feeling of joy  😎👍

My favourite ship badge colours. My school jotters and tech drawing folders always had a meticulously drawn ship badge on them.

Badge currently on retro Hummel stuff is the best and latest update of the ship badge (1988), both blue and black background. More "shield" shaped than the original.

Back then people were less bothered about such trivial details.

The variation will be because a printer might say we can only do 3 colours, or whoever was making the kits had a machine that could do 5 - but blue thread will be more expensive than black etc etc etc.

Just choose what you like and if anyone moans about it tell them to bore off.

I use Tom (@tom.tildeath on Instagram) at Black Widow in Castletown, he’s spot on like. Never been anywhere else to be honest.

Can confirm you are correct.
Tom is my son-in-law, my daughter taught him to tattoo, and I taught her, so it’s like I’ve tattooed you, bruh! 😂

Tom is absolutely spot-on and I’d get tattooed from him in a heartbeat (I’ve already got a few from him).

I’ve tattooed more SAFC badges than I can remember tbh, but I’m no longer in Sunderland, but will happily tattoo any exiles around the Cambridge area. I’m proper fed up of doing Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham shit and it would make a nice change.

There’s a few things I’ll give my opinion on - The ‘Sunderland’ should be done as black writing, not negative space, or the ink around the lettering will encroach and make it unreadable in a few years (I’ve had to try and fix quite a few old badge tattoos because of this). Also, the ones that look like sewn on embroidery are very impressive, in the photo taken directly after. They rely on a lot of white ink to give the illusion of thread, and unless you’re never going to expose your tattoo to sunlight then that white ink will very quickly fade away and the effect is quite significantly less impressive.

Hope this helps. Also, I used to love doing the badges because I love SAFC. So I knew I’d be able to have a bit craic about the lads with the customer. There’s only one great tattooist in Sunderland that I can think of who supports Sunderland and that’s Pete, from Tight Lines Tattoo. Otherwise, be prepared to talk about anything other than football. 😂

Thanks to the two posters who mentioned me, btw. Much love. Xxx

Rhiannon done my first tattoo at Roker back in 2020  old ship badge on my leg. Used to go to her until about 2022/23 ish when I started using Tom, can remember her mentioning you before like. Haven’t been in for a while me haha need to get back in soon.

The background colour round the ship and Sunderland should always be blue. The original ball was brown but personally I think the black ball looks better. Make sure you get a proper version as there are a load of variations of it
Says the bloke who has the black ship badge with white ball as his profile photo 😂😂😂
Not into tattoos but saw this on FB today.

I see his work being shared by some of the SAFC fan pages and personally think the Sunderland badges he does are poor at best (undoubtedly better than I could do like 😂), though the rest of his work doesn’t look bad to my untrained eye.

I think I’d prefer a tattooist who didn’t quote scripture all over his Facebook tbh. Each to their own, but that dude is creating craven images all day long then trying to cosy up with the big sky fairy. Hypocritical tbh. 😂

Funny enough, when it was introduced, the badge on the 72/73 programmes had the badge with the black background and white ball that was used from 1990 to 1993 - probably due to printing costs

The old badge on the new Hummel strips is a bit of a weird shape. Almost like it's too short, or starts curving too far up. Wonder why they didn't/couldn't get it like it was meant to be.

That’s the super rare cup run prog isn’t it? Twenty years back I wandered into a prog fayre at Sussex CCC ground in Hove/Brighton and one was prominent on a dealers stand for £120. Thankfully the day’s drinking had yet to start.
Win the Europa League and I'm getting one
I’m tempted by the cats eyes with the Europe maps as veins….

Yeah but to be fair he was wanting the original version and mentioned blue round the ship and black round the Sunderland text. I was just telling what the original version was
