Mayenda discussion thread

He needs to up his workrate imo if he wants to make it as a premier league player. Got all the attributes otherwise.
Seems like somethings not right with him to me.Looks lacklustre when he has come off the bench, granted not too many opportunities. His heart doesn’t look in it , I could be a million miles off it though. Hope now we have Europe he knuckles down as he will get opportunities, has a high ceiling for me.

Funny one. Of all of our promotion squad he was the one I thought could be one of our biggest assets but just hasn't been able to get involved in games as much as he'd have liked. He has an incredible ability to carry the ball with pace and power when he gets going but he just needs to work on finding that space better to receive the ball in the tighter areas that exist at the top level. To be fair his attitude in all of the behind-the-scenes stuff looks excellent and he seems like a great character.

I don't see the value in flogging for a small fee mind since he won't be on big wages. I'd only consider it unless there was stupidly high sell-on clause since I think he has potential to be a very good player who could go for big money in future. I doubt any buyers would agree to that mind. We should absolutely look to get him a decent loan as he has proven himself at Championship level so we should have plenty of offers at that level.

With European football next year I think he'd still get a fair amount of game time though and it might help get him going again to get a bit more game time against some lower-standard teams initially. Suspect his issue is a confidence and instinct thing about how/when to make the movements he needs make to find the spaces to get on the ball and turn.

I still think he needs more time on the right wing. His dribbling, power, pace and ability to get it into feet and turn on it would be ideal for what we need on the right in my opinion.

He also looked very good there linking with Isidor before and be interesting to see if playing off Brobbey he would be even more effective

I think the lad has a lot of potential and we would be mad to sell him now. He has the basic ingredients to be a Premier League forward - pace, power, shoots with both feet, can dribble. He needs to polish he rough edges, but it's all there.
I feel like he needs to go on loan next season to a club where he will be playing every week.

Get him over into Europe, somewhere like the Eredivisie or the Belgian Pro League. We've got a good few players in the squad who have shown that it is possible to make the step up from that level, and hopefully the slightly lower level will help build confidence and we could hopefully get him in a team towards the top of the table too.

The worry is if we loan him to a team in a top league and he either ends up in the rotation role again, which doesn't really help, or playing for a team towards the bottom of the table who are getting battered most weeks.

If he gets the right loan next season I think he could really kick on in his development, but it feels like a bit of a make or break season for me.

Only rationale I can make for it is he cost less then 1 million. If we got 8/10 for him that’s a lot of SCR headroom the way the calculations work

He’s certainly at a crossroads for sure. I think from what I’ve seen this season he isn’t ready for the step up regularly, but league cup, Europa league etc and sure.y there are opportunities for him. I get he will want to play every week, but it’s also good to be learning from the likes of Xhaka every day in training as Rigg seems to have done. I’m hope he stays, but I have a feeling he’s away.

Yeah tbf, the goal in the Final was off his right boot.

Matters not for EPL purposes, we held his registration
Where's that rule, out of interest? As far I'm aware because it's an international loan his registration moved from the FA to the SFA which would break up the 3 year English registration.

The FIFA law, I believe, is that a player cannot be registered to 2 different countries at the same time, so no matter how temporary, his registration must have moved to Scotland and Hibs. Unless they played him without being registered through their FA.

The rule is vague but the precedent is William Saliba who meets the homegrown rule despite being out on loan in france

FIFA does not govern the EPL homegrown rule

Looked to me like one of the club officials encouraged him to go and get "one last send off" from the South stand after the game.

He came over on his own...

I could be wrong, but that's what it looked like to me...

Yep ,and me, thing is if he goes its not a reflection on his ability more his laidback attitude. We have come a long long way and for the foreseeable future we will have to battle and work our bollocks off before we arrive at the top table.I think RLB requires high workrate and has seen he wont get it from him.Shame really

Really hope he's going on loan. I'm convinced they're is talent in him.
Never seen a player improve over one season at much as he did last time. Shame he didn't get enough games time this season.

I think even ability though, the step up from the Championship to the PL is massive and now we have to add in the standards of the Europa League. He has some great qualities and could grow into a good player. But for me, he has some limitations as a lone striker - his hold up play isn't good enough. It may get better with time, but if we can cash in on good profit then it may be better to use that to put towards a more complete article.

Ideally go out on loan and play a season in Germany or France for a mid level team where he will play week in week out and develop to come back to us but I think if there’s decent money on the table and a good sell on clause he’ll be gone

It's an odd one. Before a ball was kicked I'd written him at premiership level. Then, IMO, he's actually shown, at times, he can be an asset/threat. Certainly more than I thought he'd be (and yet he now appears to have falled behind Isidor, who many had as being behind Mayenda not long ago).

Given the style of play/set up I dont see a way in for him. That said, you need a squad/cover/competition for places and European qualification should mean he gets more games.

All in all I think we should keep him.
