I like Cirkin. However when we went up I said that whole Alese, Cirkin, Huggins and potentially having Hjelde starting needed sorting. The club did. Cirkin has looked decent enough at this level but his injuries and whatever other issues he’s had will mean we are in the market for a LB this summer. Hope the lad does well but I d be surprised if it’s in the prem.
Where is Alese these days?

Has he really had frequent injuries?
Surely it’s all been the same one - a fairly unique problem with his wrist.

Not really.
DC had the knee injury at the start for about a month+, two hamstring injuries...surgery - they were about 4 months absence, bashed his head, a concussion like 2 weeks later from a fist, fractured wrist, and then the broken thumb.

Miracle he doesn't rattle when he walks

He would be perfect for our needs. Ext season given a minimum of 8 European games. We might also have a run in the league cup for a change. But can he stay fit.

I’d imagine the bigger question would be whether he wants to stay he’s not first choice and you could argue he’s third or fourth choice given our tendency to play people out of position at LB ahead of him. He needs football.

Replacing him with a similar level for what we need I’d think would be around £8m so it’s a big call to let him go.

Can't see the League Cup being very high on our list of priorities tbh

Depends on his fitness. He only made 10 appearances for us this past season, about half of which were as a sub.

He's a very competent squad player, who barely put a foot wrong when he played last season. There a couple of issues though.

1) injury record. Long history of unreliable availability.
2) Is he willing to sign another deal knowing he's realistically a squad player, at least for now.

The other issue is that we probably ought to be looking at a long-term replacement for Reinildo, who turns 33 this season and is slowing down a bit (still good though). Is Cirkin good enough and reliably fit enough to be the player to gradually replace Reinildo?

That's the deal we could pitch to him, if we think he's good enough. More games, more minutes, Reinildo getting older.

Cirkin is a more than capable backup PL full-back, with the potential to be far more.

The only problem is he's unlikely to be available when he's needed. For example, those games against the pot 3 and 4 sides in the Europa League when you might want to rest Reinildo. I know you can't say for sure with anyone, but would you bet on it?

Sometimes, the best ability is availability.

All that said, I'd be pleased if he stayed.

Spot on opinion which I share. I just want him to be ready to go but when he isn't it's frustrating. Still would be happy to see him sign up coz still quite young and talented.

I'd keep him if he wants to stay, but if he wants to leave let him go. Can probably manage another year with Reinildo first choice, but we need at least one reliably available back-up. Someone better than Masuaku as well!
