How the Europa League works

The knock out phases are all two legs. If you have to go via the playoffs, it's anything up to

We've been allocated a fifth of FA coefficient, which puts us in pot 3 at the moment. Where we sit finally will depend on who gets through the qualifiers

The playoffs for the knockouts marra

It’s an absolute mess of a competition to be fair. It was so much better when it was a group stage then a knockout but then I’m an old fart.

Wasn't it not originally just a straight 2-leg knockout competition from start ?

Sounds class, but we could potentially only play 2 games

Exactly the same format as the Champions League.so why is it a mess of a competition?

It's all designed to guarantee the maximum minimum amount of games.

It really wasn't better in the previous group stage format.

Just favoured the big teams with easy draws as they got to avoid each other until the QF's. So much better making the pots irrelevant from a draw perspective.

The CL teams then got to drop down into the EL for finishing 3rd. A safety net for the biggest teams if they ever fucked up their gimme groups and failed to make top 2.

As an old fart surely it was better when it was just the Champions and one or two other teams making Europe and having 2 legged knockouts from the start to the final. Otherwise you're not that old ;)

I assume we play one team from Pot A at home , and one team from A away ?

And one Pot B at home, one Pot B away

So on and so forth ?

And we are Pot A meaning we are one of the 8 top seeded teams ?

Doesn’t give us much time to plan trips, first round of group games are mid-September.

Hopefully the first game is at home , gives us an extra 2 weeks for the first away game .

Good thing, the dates are set , so all 8 games aren't going to move, all the way to January. Makes the other 3 away games much easier to plan

Unbelievable that we won't know the remaining 24 qualifiers until August.

Mind most of the 8 teams that get knocked out of the CL qualifying rounds and end up in EL, will be from "lesser" countries football wise so maybe not too much to worry about there.

There will still be a canny few "biggish" names to add to the 12 already in once the long drawn out qualifying rounds are concluded.
Fking exciting mind , even for a 65 yo !😊👍
