7 Years Ago Today - Charlton Playoff Final

Only 7 years ago man.

In hindsight, one of the best things that ever happened as God knows who Donald and Methven would have flipped us to.

What an unbelievable transformation in 7 years.

Imagine if someone told you after that game that 7 years later we'd qualify for the Europa League after finishing 7th in the PL

I was there right on the half way line great view pity about the result

This is what I say about why winning feels SO good when you'd had to fight and scrape and battle for everything. That's what makes a club what it is.

When you sell your soul to some uber-billionaire to make it a plaything, and you sign every player under the sun, you detach your future from your past.
That's when winning becomes expected and stops being amazing, and losing makes you angry instead.

Its why I'd never want us to be a Man City, or a Chelsea etc

Walked out of Wembley after that shit show and had no idea where we were supposed to be going, apart from into the abyss.

We turned up for about 11 mins out of 94, they scored our goal and we barely laid a glove on them. Jack Ross should’ve been gone as soon as that final whistle was blown.

In hindsight, it probably was for the best we lost that day as Donald had plans to flip us to someone even more broke than himself.

Havent been back to Wembley since. Which seems to have coincided with an upturn in our fortunes. We even got a goal headstart that day and Ross didnt know what to do with it

Hated every second of that game.

Think it's one of the few matches in my life I've not seen the final whistle. The second that goal went in we just got up and walked out, didn't even need to confer, just down the access and off to the tube

And as others have said, it's that which makes Sunday all the sweeter, so as shit as it was it makes me really realise how good things are right now

I missed our goal. Looked down at something as there was no danger and they were knocking it about at the back then, suddenly, everybody was going mental.

I was in a perpetual slump that season. Losing to Portsmouth a few months earlier then this shit show of a day.

Isn’t that what salmon pants wanted too Ross out after the game

Started with an absolute gift and other that Leadbitter having a decent strike saved we offered nothing else. Sat back when we had them on the ropes and let them back in. What a numb feeling that was.

Still, it was part of the journey that led to now.

I treated myself to a full corporate package as it’s something I’ve never done in my life and wanted to try it once. What a waste of money that turned out to be. (Because of the result, not the corporate package I might add.)

Only SEVEN years ago!!!

It seems like a thousand years to me and as an Old Git I usually say the opposite .

"EEEE... seems like only yesterday ..... hows that young Kenneth Phillips getting on at Southampton?"
