LON playing out from back

His switch of play on his left foot is some weapon. Absolutely arrows it on the money 9/10 times.
This, there won't be many if any defenders in the premier league who can pin point a long range ball with what is supposed to be his weaker foot. That is an excellent skill to have which will serve him well for another couple years in this league, chuffed for him

The ball to Brobbey for our second was sublime, cut out all their midfield. That second goal was ridiculous in quality btw, apart from Brobbey’s poor scuffed finish but it still went in anyhow so happy days.

Anyways, back to the OP, ONien was superb yesterday, as he was against Everton. He’s always going to have a brain fart now and then, such as the Mag’s goal, but he’s a dependable back-up player and you can bet your bottom dollar that he will give his all and continually try to improve.

Imagine if he gets to play against AC Milan

Imagine! How can we not love the man, he represents all the hope and the heartbreak of the last decade. His presence just gives that feel good factor which spurs us on even more.

Pretty sure he was in the team last year mainly due to his ability to play out from the back rather than his actual centre half ability.

Love seeing him prove himself time & time again.
Lad is 5'9ft, its insane he has done as well as he has, didnt United buy a short CB a few years ago who could not cope due to his size?

Some really good movement from us when he had the ball and he threaded some nice passes through the middle. He's been comfortable defensively in games where our defence hasn't been stretched and he can get on with doing the basics well.

Any guesses what value he would be worth? Can’t tell if he is genuinely a 15/20m player or he just has that value to us

Possibly the finest example of showing how to ‘step up’ and having to do it it multiple times to reach the level he now finds himself at. Without a doubt, will go down as a club legend

Happy to hold my hands up and say I was wrong about Luke (again). He has his flaws, always very worried if he’s in an aerial duel in our box, but he was sublime yesterday. So so happy for the lad.

Said all along. Hes not as good as some make out. But you cant question his effort and commitment and hes a far better player than his critics would have you believe

The biggest thing for me is how hes matured in a league with VAR.

Sunderland are a better team with Luke Onien in it

didn’t think he’d be able to step up, been quality these last two games. Hope he gets some minutes in Europe. Still think we’ll sign another centre half this summer,

He's one of our best defenders in terms of his range of passing with both feet. Has always been one of his main strengths.

His range of passing with both feet is sublime, is he left or right footed? I remember one he played down the line first time away at Everton to get us on the counter, was glorious.

No one works harder than the onion.
