I had to google it like as it’s never been of interest until now :lol:

If I’ve got it right then every team plays 8 games - 4 home and 4 away. Every team plays 2 teams from each pot and we won’t meet another English team in the league phase.

Then the knockout round is based on league position after those 8 games. There are 36 teams in the league table.

Teams from 1st to 8th in the league after their 8 games go straight through to the knockouts and teams from 9th - 24th go into a playoff for the knockout stage.

Teams from 9th to 16th get home advantage in the second leg of that playoff.

Teams from 25th - 36th are out of Europe altogether.

After that it’s a bog standard knockout format

It’s mental. Took me about 10 minutes to work out what the fuck was going on :lol:

Suppose it guarantees all the clubs 8 European games and European football in the new year but it’s still a pain in the arse. Why they couldn’t just leave it as seeded teams and the group format is beyond me.

The first tiebreaker in placing teams for European spots in Serie A is head to head. Juventus lost both games to Como this season, so Goal Difference does not come into play. Como is in 4th and qualified for Champions League. Juventus will be 5th if they win or draw and 6th if they lose.

AC Milan and Juventus both confirmed in Europa League for 2026-2027.

I don’t even have a bloody clue what teams play there let alone specific ones.

I’ve only just gotten used to how life in the Premier League works. Now I have to get used to how Europe works.
