Coventry, Ipswich and Hull

Every club has its time in the sun mate, and only Arsenal/Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool/Everton/Spurs are yet to be relegated from the modern Premier League.

I'm sure many clubs like Leicester or Stoke never thought it would happen to them but any club is only one bad summer window or start to the season away from disaster. Spurs hopefully dropping off that above list tomorrow.

The bell will toll for Brighton/Bournemouth/Brentford at some point in the future too.
You're not necessarily wrong but for the clubs you mentioned it was a failure at an executive level that doomed them. The reason the likes of Brighton have lasted so long is because they're very well run. Perhaps that will change in the future, but for the time being there's nothing to indicate it will.

Think it’s going to be a tough league again next season regardless. At least one of them will make a go of it, Forest and the hammers/spurs survivors unlikely to be as bad again.

Hull surely won't stay up. Unless they do a Sunderland. Ipswich and McKenna have recent Prem experience. If they recruit well they'd be the ones I fancy to stay up. Coventry will probably go back down but again it depends who they buy.

That isn't really a barometer of how strong the league was? Lots of mitigation as to why we finished where we did.

Out of all the teams in the league, we had the third highest amount of days in the top 2 and still finished 17th, which is a better barometer of how poor the league was. Our team last year was so unbalanced and I said that on here when we were 2nd, that we had no chance of finishing anywhere near that.

At one point in the season we won 1 game in 7 and dropped from 2nd to just 4th.

I get you are happy with winning the league and fair play to you, but let's not try and put lipstick on a pig here.

We hear the same thing every season.

While Coventry might not be as strong as Leeds or other previous champions, the division was far more open and competitive. Can't remember a season where promoted sides spent the money Birmingham and Wrexham did. We can't also forget that Sheffield United and Leicester struggled despite similar squads to previous seasons.

All 3 needed to spend. Can’t write them off as Leeds and ourselves have shown
Not just spend 100m plus but also bring quality players in.

Leeds had a good squad then got Calvert Lewin (120k a week wages) & Stach (great stats in Germany), plus were after Sadiki & Diarra.

We got Xhaka (be amazed if any of those 3 teams get a player with his quality in) then a whole new team with only one player who contributed nothing in Masuaka (who was signed as cover tbf)

Burnley had a better team then the 3 teams that have been promoted but were hamstrung by having near 100m spent on converting their loan signings who have proven to be not good enough for the premier league and losing Trafford (who is a very good keeper and was a massive reason for their defence in the Championship).

Honestly, Coventry have got a good manager (hard not to be impressed by Lampards tbf) and play attacking football, but are carrying debt and we shall see how there spending goes but could see Lampard with his connections getting a few good players in.

Ipswich again have a good manager, refreshing to see a team stick with their manager after relegation and being rewarded with coming back up, Clarke being played in his best position, financially in a great spot having come back up and can build on the squad they assembled last time but have already had to spend some of their budget converting loans.

Hull, well done, manager done a great job, but that squad would lose everyday to our playoff team from last year, some of their key players are loans, not sure how much money they will actually be able to spend having been under a transfer embargo.

McKenna is too stubborn to change his playing style. They'll be as wide open as they were last time.

Ipswich have a huge financial backing
It’s pension and investment funds, isn’t it? Can’t imagine they’re keen on massive amounts of risk for their investment - particularly after having been bitten once already. Certainly they’ll be wanting a return at some point. With all of these owners (KLD included) there’ll be a maximum investment that they’ll be willing to make over the lifetime of their ownership. It’ll be capped by the value of the club at the very maximum. We’re lucky that all of KLDs spend has been done at PL level. With Ipswich they’ve already spent big in a failed PL campaign as well as during last season’s promotion. That’s all money that they’ll won’t spend going forward. Back to SAFC, it’s why we need to remain very careful with our money. Can’t afford many Adingras.

People will be saying the same about these as they did about us that they are relegation certainties but without massive investment from all three then I cannot see any of them staying up
This. Sunderland were relegation certainties but hit the double whammy of spending big and, in the main, all being good purchases.
Not seen much of any of the newly promoted sides but assume they will all be in the same scenario. Can’t, at present, see more than one possibly surviving.

Will Ipswich have the least to spend , having spent a fortune on Championship players last time?
They'll have the same SCR limitation as everyone else. A lot will depend on how big their current amortisation charge and wage bill are. On their current turnover level plus increased media, they'll probably have a spending cap of around £125m for wages plus amortization. I'm not seeing a lot of transfer upside in their squad to bump that up

The difference is none of these sides are attracting a Granit Xhaka type player who will single-handedly drag everyone in the club up by the scruff of the neck, and in turn attract several more quality players.
