Dan Burn or Harry Maguire?

The squad is seriously wierd.

Burn is too bad on the ball to play well against teams sitting in and too crap at defending to play against france/Spain etc.

Henderson is no longer good enough. Wharton should be going but even if you dont want him there a young players like Scott should be going for the experience before Henderson.

Even as a sunderland fan I think Spence over Hall is an absolute joke of a decision. And I dont think we've picked an actual fit right back. TAA being ostracised is very strange.

Im not a fan of Quansah but he has had a good season.
Think Scott is going along with King and Ngomha for experience. Sure I read that somewhere, to help with training etc

Between just those two? Maguire.

People are glossing over that John Stones is selected, he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since August last year. It’s his spot which Maguire should be taking, not Burn’s spot.

Taking out obvious bias there’s a lot to admire about Burn, certainly committed, solid enough and most of all has made the most of limited talent. He’s been quite good for the Mags but him being seen as genuinely England class is akin to Nyron being called up for England.

If you listen to Tuchell he hasn't picked the best 26 players in the country. He has picked a team with everyone having a specific job for any eventuality

For example .. Toney to take a pen, Burn for set pieces, players to come one when we are chasing a game, Djed Spence in case we play against someone quick, Henderson for his leadership on and off pitch etc etc.
He has looked at every possible scenario and I'm positive he has took Burn for a tight game when a set piece might be important. Only time will see if he got it right

Burn gets selected solely on the fact we have no left footed CBs is my guess
This. It’s really Maguire or Stones. For me Stones is a much more talented centre half, more versatile and more suited to what’s likely to be a slower, more technical tournament. Obviously Maguire has played more footy this season, but for a reserve that may not matter so much. Obviously Burn is utterly trash, but he gets away with it due to the lack of fit left footed centre halves. If Colwill had made it back 2-3 weeks earlier, he’d have taken that place.

Neither Burn or McGuire would play anyway I reckon bat injuries to the others selected, however I do t think the debate should be between Burn or McGuire but the fact John Stones has been selected even though he has pretty much been out all season injured. That’s the strange part that I don’t get.

Yeah, because maguire is awful at set pieces.

Football wise it's obviously Maguire.

Dan Burn rescues broken down cars though.

Maguire gets arrested & gives it the whole "don't you know who I am" thing.

Tuchel can only have adopted this angle in his attitude.
Aye it shouldn’t be forgotten that publicly available info would indicate that Maguire is a f***ing arsehole, mind. Looks like it’s a family trait too.

On pure ‘on pitch’ measurements there is no competition. However it’s also an insight into how poor our centre back cadre is beyond 2 or 3. The latter is more worrying. In truth, neither would play unless we need a late goal hallelujah
