England World Cup squad news

Leaving Palmer seems a mistake to me .

I know hes had a poor season with injuries .

But it's only 11 months ago in scorching US heat that he twice waltzed through the PSG defence to score in World Club game.

He could've come good at World Cup - something different to bring on if we needed creativity.

I don't get that
Palmer needs a summer off. 2023 U21s Euros, 2024 Euros, 2025 Club World Cup. He looks frazzled, like his feet aren't doing what his heads telling them to do.
Other than Wharton & MGW I feel for Jarred Bowen. Probs his last chance and hes been brought down by his own loyalty to a basket case of a club

Nowadays it’s rare for a single player to be a difference maker. At the same time, some players in brilliant form, some seasoned internationals, have been snubbed. None of the explanations for why make sense as they are contradicted by the picks he did make.

Maguire was arguably the most in-form centre half but has been left out for Burn and Stones, the latter of which has barely kicked a ball and is famously injury prone.
according to the sports reporter on R4 today Burn was picked more for what he 'adds' to the squad(vibes maybe 🤷‍♂️) than anything else

Tuchel seems to focus on attitude of players and that could be why he left out a few of the so called big names .

Harry Maguires MAM complaining ffs what is she thinking . ?

Love it how you immediately go to “he knows nowt about 21st century football”. I never said it was job well done either, Tuchel will be based on tournament results, as is the case with every single manager before him.

Also, not conceding a single goal across an entire qualification campaign is objectively difficult regardless of opposition. One mistake, one set piece, one deflection and the record’s gone. Plenty of elite sides have failed to do it against similar-level groups. If Spain or France did it we’d be wetting our kegs over them.

Pretending qualification means absolutely nothing is nonsense. If England had conceded goals or dropped points, people would hammer them for that too… and the irony is England are now criticised for things they used to fail at, such as controlling games, qualifying comfortably, keeping clean sheets and dominating weaker sides.

Bet you’d love someone like Stevie G or Frank Lampard who has absolutely nothing of value on their CV walking us out to a World Cup instead of someone who has won league titles and the

Well there’s a bet you’d lose.

Alan Kennedy won Div1 and EC medals but nivver got near England.

3 English strikers finished joined 5th for Premier League goals. Only one gets in the squad.

Kane will start every game so we could have English striker available to have a massive bench (I agree with Toney, even if he only gets subbed on a minute before the penalties 🙄)

Everyone thinks picking an England squad is just picking the best players and shoving them all together and they’ll work. That’s not how club sides do it so why on earth should international sides. It’s partly why we never win. Case in point, Phil Foden. Very good for Man City. Never works for England.

That reason alone is justification for his none selection..... f***ing mammies boy 🙄

Good showing for northern keepers all born within 100 miles of each other - Whitehaven, Cockermouth and Sunderland

I’m guessing this is SEB, but what an absolute fanny:

Pleased he’s not in the squad if this is the entitled way him and his family have responded.

Fecking idiots.
Looks like he's weeding out as many arseholes as he could. Just Bellingham/entourage left.

Zoe Maguire, went on like a bint. Looks like he got rid of one of the right ones there. Hope the tournament doesn't backfire now 😂

I’m actually rooting for them to win more now there’s been such hell on about the players he’s not selected. Just a shame there are three Mags in there.

Alex Scott unlucky, and think Welbeck probably deserved a shot. How Spence over Trent is a crazy one for me. But none of Palmer, Rodgers, Foden, or Bowen isn’t great. Can’t see us shocking the world without those lads.

Behave man! Dan Burn is just like ordering Maguire on wish.

Maguire is better in the air (despite the hight disparity) better with the ball at his feet, better at passing, better at DEFENDING, and probably better as a leader in the dressing room.

It’s not a case of saying that we are looking at the twinkly shiny thing, and saying that we want it. They are similar players, but one is just much better than the other. It makes no sense to take Burn over Maguire imho.

Both should be included. How's Toney got in instead of Calvert-Lewin?

I forgot about Gibbs-White, he's class.
Think one was going to miss out regardless as seems to be just 3 out and out central strikers and Kane was always #1 pick, and hard to argue against Watkins. But certainly one of them over Toney.

Neither were going to play. And given one ran his mouth off on social media as soon as he was told, probably tells you the type of character he is if he’s not playing.
