Saudi PIF in talks with potential investors

Saw this by a group who advocate for the preservation of fine examples of 20th century architecture.

It would be hilarious if the east stand itself were to be listed. Would stitch up both redevelopment and relocation options.

Inshallah 🤞

They’re right to as well. It’s easily the best looking stand they have. Full of character. The rest is meccano

The council will bend over to change the use of the properties.

They wasted 100s of thousands campaigning against Ashley’s sports direct arena
Listed buildings are a statutory protection so they can't just disregard the advice of Historic England....out of hand at least.

Change of use is less of an issue than demolition or significant change to the setting.

Just found it interesting that the east stand, and so the relationship with surrounding environment is also of architectural and cultural heritage interest. Together they create quite a unique group interest.

I've always thought about it as a scruffy back of a stadium but the design of the east stand is actually quite interesting.

Grade I. They might even struggle to scratch their arses inside it let alone get a change of use.

Someone posted earlier that the houses could be used as offices to allow for more corporate in the stadium as may be required for the Euros?

Buying up property in Newcastle is what the Reuben's have been doing since they got involved. Imho they have zero interest in the football club, it was just a mutually beneficial relationship that got their feet under the Jawdee Nashun property table and probably helped them get in better with the council.

They'd turn Sid James into a shopping mall, offices and residential properties if they could. It's absolutely prime real estate in an area of the city thats already had billions spent redeveloping and improving it.

I'm currently over in Saudi and this seems to be gathering pace now and rumours are flying that they want to get shot of them, maybe they are losing interest or maybe the pot isn't as bottomless as they thought. A lot of plans they had for areas over here and expansion works are getting shelved.
It doesn’t help that the Straits of Hormuz are closed currently funding getting tighter
