England World Cup squad news

We’ve seen Spence and Burn run ragged quite a few times this season by players who won’t get anywhere near a World Cup. The thought of them having to face the best players in the world is both terrifying and laughable.

Let's look at it this way, previously managers have always picked the best players. ( On paper) and we've won nothing, so let's see how picking a squad that maybe revolves more as a team goes on.

Personally I agree with the omission of Cole and Foden and the inclusion of Toney.

I honestly think Toney could be an international star in the making, cocky, full of confidence and knows where the net is.

I would have selected McGuire though.

He hasn't got much current form as he isn't starting that many games.

Also the squad clearly isn't picked on current form given some of the picks
It shouldn't be picked on current form either. Teams should be picked on what tactically works.

Thought Hall was good when he played for England.

Media reports today that Bayern, Manchester United and Liverpool are in for him over the summer - must think theyve no chance of getting Djed Spence.

All of England's defenders aren't exactly great, lets not pretend that hes left out elite players.

When SAFC were struggling in the Championship or League One I found the England national team a source of relief and Southgate had a good thing going.

Now SAFC are doing well, my enthusiasm for the England team isn’t quite the same but I’ll always hope we win something one day but I highly doubt it will be the 2026 World Cup.

I also think it's remiss to ignore tournament experience and past England performances.
That's why for me Cole Palmer should have been in the squad
He had a big impact on games in our last tournament. I'm not convinced the likes of Madueke will have that impact.

I doubt they'll be planning to play them in a (hypothetical) final against France or Spain

Arsenal barely missed Saka because Mudueke was playing very well.

Palmer and Foden are 2 of my favourite English players to watch on form. Amazing skill and version. The pair of them have been way below their previous form this season. Both can have no complaints for being dropped unfortunately.

thinks tuchel change formation shape by dropping cole and foden. I think Bellingham is pushing as number 10. 2 defensive midfield in the centre and two wingers.

Rumours are flying that Ivan Toney comes in as 3rd choice striker. Useful for pens situation, plus he is goal scorer threats

Haway man, you've picked the best 3 players out of that group of defenders! O'Reilly in particular has been class for City in a number of positions, won them the League cup final.
I don’t understand your post I picked the best 3 as they’re the only ones I’d take for the lads, the rest would get nowhere near our team. At no point in my post did I criticise the 3 I picked

Was he? Barely made it past the hour mark in the games he’s started and failed to deliver

Imo you can't always pick international squads on current club form. If we need a goal and you turn to your bench who would you have more confidence/hope in producing a bit of magic for you? Palmer or Madueke?
