Sunderland v Chelsea (1979)

I was at that Match in the Fulwell End.......Just reminded me how Bad Roger Tames was as a commentator.....decent squash player though, played at the Eldon Square Sports Centre...
I played him. He wasn’t a good player
And tames plays a lovely drive down the wall

True fact not known by a lot of people @Jack Ford @gluepot @sismanhatton

Chelsea signed Mickey Droy from Slough Town in the 1970/71 season, no transfer fee but a promise of a friendly at the end of the season.

Chelsea went on to win the Cup Winners Cup that season (beating Real Madrid 2-1 on a Wednesday night replay). On the Friday, exactly the sane team played against Slough Town in a friendly. Game was a 2-2 draw in front of 9,000 fans , in fact The Rebels were winning 2-0 at half time.

Cannot remember that. I knew Droy played for Slough and was transferred to Chelsea.Im honestly a bit surprised I can't remember this .
Nice one!
Mind I can remember Blyth Spartans playing at Slough in Amateur Cup. Blyth Spartans had a contingent of fans wearing black and white stripes with them who were causing. bother.Slough at that time had a few well known characters who supported Chelsea in the crowd.I can remember the earring factions jumping on car bonnets on the melee that followed.

I was there in the Fulwell wing paddock having graduated from the Fulwell End.

Wonder why there was no transfer fee. He finished up the road from me at Kingstonian
By the way, same reel "Retro Highlights" has this one further down the list.

Great read, seen many a Sunderland v Chelsea match and remember Micky Droy well, but unaware he came from Slough originally.

Hooligan 😉

I noticed Gary Johnson scored for Chelsea. Was this the same Gary Johnson as in Lee Johnson’s dad?

Lee Johnson. Wonder what he thinks when he sees us now. Such an arrogant fucker he probably thinks he laid the foundations
