How Aston Villa can affect qualifying for UEFA tournaments next season.

Here’s something I picked up from another forum:

If Aston Villa finish FOURTH in Premier League:

The club with the best club ranking in the qualifying rounds (Sporting CP Lisbon) moves from Champions League qualifying 3 to league stage.

Two clubs with the best club ranking in Champions League qualifying 2 (Bodø/Glimt and Olympiakos Piraeus) move from Champions League qualifying 2 to qualifying 3.

If Aston Villa finish FIFTH in Premier League:

The 3rd club of Belgium (Sint-Truiden) moves from Europa League playoff to league stage.

The 3rd club of Austria (FC Salzburg) moves from Europa League qualifying 3 to playoff.

The cup winners or runners-up of Switzerland (), Israel (), Cyprus (), and Sweden (Hammarby IF) move from Europa League qualifying 1 to qualifying 2 regardless of whether Aston Villa finish fourth or fifth.

Thanks for that.

When did you think it was acceptable to waste my time by posting this?

Cheers marra. Could have an influence on opponents for us next season if we manage it

Well its Friday morning and Villa will be waking up from a 24 hour bender.

Two days until they play next which isnt long in terms of elite level sport and recovery from a session.

They are going to be well off the pace I imagine against City.

Yeh,i reckon City will be a cert on Sunday.

Surely the most important thing is that if Villa finish 5th, 6th place in the prem go into champions league, 7th place go into Europa and 8th into the Conference?

If Villa finish 4th, we don’t get an extra CL place so you need to be 7th for Conference and 6th for Europa

No, we’ve still got 5 champions league places regardless. If Villa finish fourth, 5th gets champions league, 6th and 7th get Europa and 8th gets conference. If Villa finish fifth we lose one of the two Europa spots so top six champions league, 7th Europa and 8th conference.

If Palace win the conference they get Europa next season so we will have anywhere between two and four sides playing on Thursdays.

The only thing that changes is that 6th gets CL, not Europa. Irrelevant for us. 7th would always have got Europa and 8th Conference, because the Cups were won by City
