Southampton spying compendium thread

Hearing kicked off at 6 but in private. Southampton fanzine saying punishment doesn’t fit, it is like stealing a bag of crisps and getting a death sentence. They are not going to take this well are they.
That is unfair, both to death row inmates and crisp thieves.

There's a talking head on the BBC feed now saying that Southampton has been given "the toughest penalty I think you can ever give in football". Well, apart from being relegated or expelled from the league. Or kicked out of the playoffs and having 50 points deducted, and given a transfer ban and a kick in the pods. Or the myriad other combinations of available penalties that are obviously much, much worse.

It's almost like being an ex-Southampton midfielder doesn't qualify a person to talk sense about disciplinary regulations.

Wrexham won't be pulled into this. The spying in the regular EFL season was presented as background cases to support the idea that this was something Southampton have been doing. The actual charge was related to the incident before the play-off semis. In the wording I've seen, the Play-Offs counts as a seperate competition to the regular EFL, and so Wrexham were never part of the competition, it was a straight knock-out tournament. Which is why the punishment is standard - break the rules in a knock-out tournament and you are kicked out of that tournament. That's why I think in the appeal, they may have the 4 point penalty removed but the expulsion from the play-offs upheld, because they are refered to as separate competitions in the regulations.
I agree, I was just saying that this is the only other 'fair' outcome.
In actually think the EFL have been spot on TBH- I really don't see how Southampton think they have a leg to stand on and it's just the board trying to avoid responsibility- essentially creat a narrative to the fans that they've been robbed rather than them being incompetent cheats who have smeared the reputation of the club.
