Discounts for OAPs

I've posted before there are some folks round where I live who took early retirement (early 50s) and are now well into their 80s, some having gone to uni until their early 20s. Retired with a lumper, some with index linked final salary pensions, and in some cases non contributory when they actually were working. I also know an old boy who used to be in the police and they paid his mortgage when he was serving.

They're absolutely minted comparatively to people in the same jobs now.
I thought things were meant to get better for each generation?

Absolutely incredible and fair play to them.

More a reflection of how prices relative to wages have shot up I think.

It’s to compensate us for being old, ill, tired, incontinent, aching, confused, pissed off, cynical, depressed, lonely and near death. Fuck off and enjoy the planet dieing

Long live OAP discounts.

Discounts. I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.

Actually, forget that last bit. For example, when i got my first ST at SOL, i got a 20% discount, but it wasn't for OAP, The ticket was in my wifes name because she worked for Vaux who were the sponsors.

PS. last time I got a discount was for entry into a museum of tiny things in Spain. You looked through a magnifying glass to view an elephant carved into a dragonfly’s eye. Sort of thing. If that causes a problem for anyone I’m deeply deeply sorry.

A triple lock was introduced to the UK state pension in 2010 to  it would not lose value in real terms and would rise at least in line with inflation.

The three-way guarantee means each year, the state pension will rise by the highest of the following:

  • Average earnings
  • Inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI
  • 2.5%
So, if average earnings increased by 3% (and inflation was lower than this), the state pension would also rise by 3%.

If average earnings or inflation rises by less than 2.5%, the state pension will grow by this amount.

And quite right too.
That's correct.

It ensures state pension goes up MORE than inflation.

It's great...until it's not. Then it's really bad.

Some people have the foresight to see that. Others don't. Some see that but don't give a shit.
It's great marra.
Some politicians will tell us otherwise, but the same ones have no idea about funding it. They will just throw out soundbites hoping for the dafties to pick up on what they say.

Not sure about season ticket concessions but OAP concessions in general is a marketing ploy to attract business when everyone else is at work.
