Luke O'Nien

You think Luke O'Nien would be an improvement on Virgil Van Djik and Konate?
Why not? Liverpool were desperate to sign Geertruida and he was 3rd choice here. Now everyone wants him to stay. LON is a decent player and contains something that these superstar players can lack: grit, determination and humility.

Why not? He isn't even remotely close as good as either of them
It's that a joke, f***ing absolutely 🤣
If all 3 were up for sale which 2 do you think would get the better move?

None of them at the back

West Ham debatable but probably the only one outside of the bottom two to be so.

That has really surprised me tbh. He's still good enough and young enough to be playing regularly somewhere. I genuinely didn't think he'd be happy to accept not playing

He is happy and settled in the area. He has played nearly 500 games and is highly valued and appreciated by staff and team mates. Why leave that to play at a lower level?
He is also improving all the time and does not look out of place when playing.

Have a word with yourself man.

Honestly the grief you give the lad is f***ing embarrassing.
Thats not giving him grief FFS 😂😂
He just isn't as good as them. Stop being so precious

I get all that and he's been great for us I just thought he'd be the type who'd want to play regularly. I don't think he ever will be a regular at this level but as you say he's very attached to the club/area and it's great to see that

I would have him in my starting 11 before either of them, as would most people based on this seasons performances.

I think you're over rating him tbh, which I get as he's a very very likable lad and has become one of us. He's loved and it clouds judgement
Not at all. He's proven every time he's stepped on the pitch this season that he belongs in this league. There's only a certain few that's blind by the fact he played in league one and think, for some strange reason, he's doesn't .

He's also dropped a few bollocks. Mags away, villa, sent off at City, was dire at Port Vale.

I wouldn't want to be relying on him to be playing regularly but as a squad player he's probably ideal.

For context, Bournemouth outplayed City last night with Adam Smith at right back and James Hill at centre back. Neither of them are household names or cost a lot of money. Brighton have had the likes of Dunk, Webster and March in their team in recent years.

"Premier League" quality means being able to fulfil your role in the team. You don't need to be a superstar, just a competent footballer. When O'Nien makes a mistake, people jump on in a way that they don't with other players. He didn't play well against Villa but he has performed perfectly adequately in his other appearances. He is a squad player and happy to accept that role while helping to set mentality in training and games.

Spot on post

Mags away he played 1 scuffed pass, something every player does every game, after that he was fantastic.
Villa was a learning game as Watkins was next to unpayable, city he was given a hospital ball and port vale he done nothing wrong.

I'm just happy that he keeps proving you wrong.

Would you have him ahead of Luke right now, seriously?
Yes. Hes head and shoulders a better player than O'Nien will ever be. Hence why he was a starter in a world cup winning team.

Beyond laughable to think a bloke who has played less than 10 games this season as a backup is better.

he is loved because his career mirrors what we have gone through as supporters in the last 10 years. we didn't give up and neither did Luke. People thought we;'d get relegated just as people figured he couldn't cut it at this level.

If that leads to us over estimating his ability so what. Sometimes you have to go with your heart.

Last minute winner against Chelsea it is then

Even if he gets the goal which puts us into Europe on Sunday there'll still be those who say he isn't up to standard and should be moved on.
