The thing is it isn’t illegal if invited by the other club. It’s only a an offence when uninvited and 72 hours before a game. Some clubs and analysts may well have some sort of gentleman’s agreement.

There was clearly a major doubt about their participation in the final ahead of the hearing yesterday. That would be pretty damning, as if it needs to be moreso. Using your fans as a weapon/tool to get a lesser punishment. Bit of a dealbreaker for most relationships. But fans and their clubs are a special relationship.

Postpone the final, to conduct more enquiries, and if the game has to be played between Hull & Boro, it'll be unlikely to be played at Wembley, which is apparently booked many months in advance.

The final could then, possibly be played at a later date, at Old Trafford, which is adequate to host a game, suited to accommodate the fan bases of both Hull & Boro.

Having seen the club's official statement, I'm more convinced than ever that they deliberately pushed ticket sales - despite the prospect of being kicked out of the final - in order to use the plight of tens of thousands of supporters as an argument for going ahead.

A responsible club would have included a disclaimer on ticket sales, and would have outlined contingency plans for refunds etc in advance.

End of the day it can’t rumble on.

Nothing was going to 100% fair, but this is probably the only way to do it. It’s all down to Southampton.

Yes but the validity of the result between Boro and Southampton has been called into question- but as a systemic issue it calls into question all of Southampton's results. So the only two fair outcomes I can see are Wrexham and Middlesbrough playing a semi and Hull playing the winner or hull playing Boro.

Ultimately Hull have to face someone I think (though they should probably have a case for a postponement).
