Southampton spying compendium thread

Had a read on the Southampton forum. A lot thinking it's far too harsh a punishment and the EFL have pandered to Boros demands. They seem to think it should have been a fine.

I have no skin in either camp but the only fair sanction was a sporting one. They sought to and potentially did gain sporting advantage by cheating. Any fine would pale in comparison to the increase in revenue of getting back to the PL.

The fact they admitted to 2 other cases in games they lost is interesting. I suspect that was to show cooperation to try and lessen the punishment without getting more heat for admitting spying in games they won. Strongly suspect they've been doing it in a more widespread capacity and that's the angle the EFL should reiterate to them. Take this punishment and we draw a line under this and won't look any further into other instances.

I can see the EFL dropping the points deduction on appeal but not the expulsion from the play offs.

Once this is all over you can't help but think a lot of senior heads will roll at the club. Feel for the fans and most of the players as it's not their fault the club decided to cheat.
Both the players and fans have came out of this looking like absolute wankers. Fuck them

I would suggest their options are close to zero. The EFL have not breached any of their own regulations, in fact they have acted very swiftly and decisively. Given the circumstances I would say that the competition rules have been applied in as timely a manner as possible.

There has been no direct harm to Hull City, just some (arguably) unavoidable uncertainty about the identity of their exact opponent, but they knew it would be one or the other.

Law courts don't like interfering in sporting competitions like the FL where a full domestic arbitration mechanism is adopted/supported by all of the members. Any alleged breach would need to be extremely and directly harmful to Hull, can't see that at all.

Im no law expert and without knowing your expertise, I'd probably wait to see what their lawyers come up with.

I'd suggest there is plenty of harm towards Hull as they no longer have the same chance of winning an extremely important game that they should have had.

just gets worse the more little snippets being leaked

didn't know it wasn't allowed but wore disguises. clearly prolonged systematic cheating

wouldn't be surprised if we hear about bugged dressing rooms next or something

they might want to keep quiet and drop the appeal whilst sacking everyone involved

Well let's see what if anything they come up with, but I don't see a single point that is legally actionable. The FL haven't broken any rules, all Hull have here is an entirely theoretical change in probability. Both teams finished above Hull in the table, both were in better form than Hull, Southampton were the most in form team (probably in the whole of Europe), arguably Hull's chances of success have just improved. As for preparation, they were always going to be playing one of these teams in the final, which opponent they eventually face is normal uncertainty, the delay unavoidable.

Or 4:30 if Southampton win their appeal. It’s becoming a bit embarrassing and a mess here. There’ll surely be some Hull fans booked trains to get there in time for a 4:30 kick off and now looking at missing the start of the game
Makes no sense are the efl just trying to piss fans off even more. Have they given a reason for this?. Makes zero sense.
