Anyone not wanting Europe?

Never thought we’d be in a position in our first season back with the chance of European football and yet some wanting us not to get it

Not me, definitely want to us to compete in European competition. Not sure who the commentators for the game yesterday were, here in the USA, but they were saying Moyes complaining of prospective players not choosing Everton because they weren't playing in Europe. Having said that, not sure if we want a player with that sort of attitude in our squad. First and foremost, they should want to play for Sunderland, no matter where we are playing. :)

I would love Europe, our squad isn't big enough and there isn't enough money made to strengthen the squad to cope , but i would love a Euro day on the piss

I’ll happily take whatever happens on Sunday. It’s already been a great season that has surpassed all expectations.
If we still had the “old Sunderland” that I’ve known for most of my life, then I would say that Europe is probably a poisoned chalice.
However, this is the “new Sunderland” where anything is possible.
Bring it on!

I always said my one true goal for this season was to stay up and win games but my absolute goal, more importantly than that, is to keep on doing that. We’ve let teams like Bournemouth and Fulham get so far ahead of us it’s not even funny. It’s time we caught up with them and become as big as they are. They are everything we aspire to be and will be in a few years time. What we want to be they already are. They are a Premier League team that has experience of the league and have bought some very talented recognisable players. If we can do that then I’m really not interested in anything else.

However if the chance to get into Europe is there I will definitely take it. Clubs like Fulham probably took years to get into Europe but we’ve done it in our first season.

Its daft not to want it, but I could see it creating problems as under the new rules it would reduce the amount we have available to spend next season from 85% of our footall income to 70% of our income at the same time as needing to strengthen our squad and play a lot more matches, all with one of the lower incomes in the Premier League.

Obviously our income would increase if we were in Europe and that would offset some of it, but the prize money in the Conference League is "tiny" and the extra matches would take their toll on us.

Was a couple of people on our bus back yesterday saying this. Just dont get it at all, especially as we haven't exactly got a history of qualifying. We might not get another opportunity like this for a while either, so no guarantees on anything, either way. We'd have the summer to "be ready" and you'd think the recruitment team are going to just sit on their hands the way this "not ready" opinion goes. Europe can only help the club grow on and off the field and we should grab it with both hands and be excited about it.

Mind, how the fuck I'll pay to go away I dont know yet 😂

EVERY PL side is only allowed a 25 man squad.
What do you mean "bigger squad" ?
Deeper would have been a better word to use. We have players in our squad currently that are no real use or on their way out, if we can replace those with useful players and possibly get a couple promising u21's that don't need to be included in the 25, then we will have a bigger pool of usable players.

Players that are currently listed in the 25 include Adingra, Alese, Neil, Patto, Cirkin, Hjelde, Masuaka, Moore, Blondy, Traore.
