Durham v Kent (A) C.C. 15/5/26

Was the leafblower a windup? Or is there a photo?
No photo from me but it was definitely next to the pitch for a few hours.
From my position at ground level on the boundary, it could equally have been a chainsaw. Until they pulled a cord, finally got it to start and pointed it at the wet patch.

Thanks for the email addresses, I'll see what happens with the email I've sent to general enquiries, mentioning legal action and invoking Martin Lewis

Out of interest, when I spoke to the Secretary Jay, totally unsolicited, he mentioned it wasn't human error.
At that point, I'd never even thought it was.
So that would be the way to go, as a faulty hose connection would obviously be human error, due to lack of maintenance on a rarely used ground.
He'd want to just put it down to the weather and then it costs them virtually nowt. Especially if all they have to do is give away a few free tickets for day 4.

If I get a negative response I’m going to ask Amex to charge back. It will cost Kent way more

It’s the principle now

Good luck with the refund gents.

As far as tomorrow goes, the forecast isn’t great, but we’ve all seen days where the forecast isn’t pretty but there ends up being a full allocation of overs. With that in mind I hope we can get some play, if the pitch plays at it did on the first two days I’m confident we can pick up some batting points.

If it starts doing alsorts, I’ll be doing the rain dance.

Imagine going to the cinema and the projector doesn't work because the bulb has gone and the projectionist had failed to follow the service schedule. You sit around for five hours while half-hearted efforts are made to find a bulb but eventually they give up because it's Sunday and the shops aren't open for long. You ask for your money back but are told no. They do offer you a ticket for a film you don't want to see, on a date and at a time that is inconvenient to you and that would mean you have to spend more money on transport etc. They claim that they make their own contractual conditions up, regardless of whether they are fair or not and that could be easily construed as being in breach of consumer protection legislation.

Great post that.
I’ve raised it as a charge back with Amex. Let’s see

Sorry chaps for derailing the thread. Let’s get back to cricket

Hasn’t derailed it at all, it’s a very valid conversation and it’s also informative for people who may find themselves in a similar position some day.

They’re taking the absolute piss

After the umpires deemed the playing surface unplayable on Day Three of Kent vs. Durham in the Rothesay County Championship, Kent Cricket has reviewed its Refund & Wet Weather Policy.

The Club has decided to compensate all ticket purchasers beyond the scope of this pre-existing policy, which was shared with Day Three ticket holders last night. Following this internal review, all ticket holders will be eligible for a Kent Cricket ticketing voucher of the equivalent value of ticket/tickets purchased for Sunday 17 May, which can be redeemed against match tickets for any Kent Cricket fixture for the remainder of the 2026 season or during the 2027 season.

This change means that compensation is no longer reserved to Day Four of Kent vs. Durham today, or the England Lions vs. South Africa A fixture at The County Ground, Beckenham on 29 May – 1 June.

The Club sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused on Day Three of Kent vs. Durham, and hopes that this change to the Refund & Wet Weather Policy is better suited to allows as many supporters and ticket holders as possible to be fairly compensated.

Kent Cricket will now be fully reviewing its Refund & Wet Weather Policy for future fixtures in light of events at Beckenham this week.

Ticket holders from 17 May are invited to fill in the form below, and will be contacted with next steps regarding their ticketing credit:

It's almost as if they simply don't acknowledge the existence of travelling supporters. I note their use of 'to be fairly compensated;. That phrase may well come back to bite them.
