Europe

I’d take two or three consecutive seasons of Premier League football over a hundred in Europe. When were we last in this position in the Premier League of being in mid table and were competing equally with mid table clubs much bigger and better than ourselves and were seeing ourselves actually take points from them? Not just for one or two games but one or two weeks never mind one or two months or year’s. In all my years I’ve rarely if ever seen us stand up to sides like Fulham and Bournemouth and give them a hard game

Even if we don’t, just staying up is more than I have ever imagined us doing. Even if we were not able to get into Europe, we’ve reached a huge pinnacle in our history. Keep on surviving and you can guarantee that’s me satisfied.
What utter drivel

Can see Man U winning, but I think Liverpool look shot to bits and Brentford may take advantage.

We've just got to make sure we do what we need to, and see how things pan out.

Will Alonso be in charge of Chelsea for the game against us?

I’m a little bit worried about a new manager bounce. If they beat spurs tonight, they will be playing to get Europa League qualification against us, never mind conference league.

And for a further bit of potential Debbie Downerism, does Juan Satori part own Monaco, or have I imagined that? Could that result in us being ‘Palaced’ out the Europa if we qualify for it?

No, yes and no

I don't want Chelsea to beat spurs, but if they did, that removes the mags' 2% chance of getting into Europe as they couldn't jump us and Chelsea, as we both can't lose

Getting ahead of myself a bit here like, but does anyone know if 7th/8th place teams this year would have to get through a qualifying round for Europa/Conference at the start of next season? Or would it be straight to the League phase?

If Villa don’t win the Europa final then the league places will only go down to 7th. Also if they finish 4th then there’s still only 5 Champions league teams.
1-5 in Champions league
6 Europa
7 Conference

Incorrect, as has been said multiple times, the top 8 are guaranteed European football.

This is wrong. If Villa don’t turn 6th into a CL spot by winning the Europa and finishing 5th, then there will be two Europa League spots ( 6th and 7th) for the league instead of one. 8th remains a Conference spot.

I thought if VIlla finished 5th and won the Europa, 6th would go to the CL, 7th and 8th to the EL and 9th to the conference.
No, the extra CL place swaps with the 2nd Europa place and England gets 6 CL, 1 Europa and 1 Conference place. It cannot be 9th place under any circumstances. We could have a 9th team if Palace win the Conference league.
What utter drivel
Exactly mate.

Maybe the Euro experience will be beneficial to our players development, the standing of the club and recruitment etc. Its been 52 years man. There is no club in Europe with our support that has not played a European match in that period. Its not even close.

About time we put that right.
I don’t think we are ready for Europe but the Europa League is still a prestigious competition .
The Conference league is tin pot for me and not worth the hassle .
Still hate the idea of playing Sunday , Thursday mind .
Then you hate the idea of our club being succesfull.

Go and jump on the South Shields bandwaggon. They always play 3pm on Saturdays.
This shite below should be in the 1st post to stop all the questions as I can't start another Europe thread as I've seen 2 already. @MonkeyLove can I ask @Pancho to edit your post to add this below?

First, if Villa win the Europa League then there is no extra European place as the Premier League's EL place is lost. This is what would happen.

1. Champions League
2. Champions League
3. Champions League
4. Champions League
5. Champions League Villa
6. Champions League Extra place
7. Europa League (FA Cup)
8. Conference League (League Cup)

If Villa don't win the EL or don't finish 5th then it's this.

1. Champions League
2. Champions League
3. Champions League
4. Champions League
5. Champions League Extra place
6. Europa League
7. Europa League (FA Cup)
8. Conference League (League Cup)

Assuming we beat Chelsea, these are the results we need for Brighton (home to Man Utd) & Brentford (away to Liverpool) games that determines where we finish. It doesn't matter if Chelsea beat Spurs as we beat Chelsea so we'd be on 54 points and Chelsea on 52. If we draw we finish no higher than 9th.

Nee Europe
Brighton win, Brentford win - 9th
Brighton draw, Brentford win - 9th

Europa League
Brighton lose, Brentford win - 8th
Brighton draw, Brentford draw - 8th

Conference League
Brighton lose, Brentford draw - 7th
Brighton lose, Brentford lose - 7th

I hope it's right as I'm a bit giddy from the result as I didn't think we'd have a chance of Europa League 🤣
Brilliant effort that and clears a lot up excempt for you getting the Europa and Confeence league mixed up. Obviously 7th is Europa and 8th is Conference.

Much as I would love the Conference as we would have a genuine chance in that, the Europa is 8 games in the group so 4 away games rather than 3 and at bigger stadiums so more likely more Sunderland fans could get tickets.
