Martin Jol when we bought Brian Brobbey: “Probably the best buy of the summer. Sunderland have done well. You have to buy them when they’re bad – that’s what I’ve learned. You have to buy good players when they’re £20 million. Otherwise, he would’ve been £50 million or £60 million."

Which underperforming players could we get for £20m and flip them to a £50m player like Brobbey? Delap? Harvey Elliott?

Delap is awful. He looks clueless. The ball literally just bounces off his head. Missed a chance yesterday and a couple against the mags. Didn't get within 5 yards of the target.

That’s the whole point isn’t it ?
 
I can't help but just think of the amount of money we wasted under Short when I think about the potential of signing Elliott or Delap. They're proper Short era signings.

Mind if we sign either of them I have more than enough trust in the recruitment team to make me think they'll be a good addition.

It’s easier said than done this see a player struggling buy him for 20m sell him for 50m
It seems RLB has a penchant for taking players struggling mentally and getting them playing.
The struggling has to be in the head though. Someone with a shit attitude is just that someone with a shit attitude. Being able to tell the difference is a skill

Harvey Elliott is a talent but I don't think he's quick enough to play out wide for us, would have to be in a team that absolutely dominates possession.

Elliot is a funny one. On paper he doesn't look like has very much going for him. He's not particularly great at anything. Had an absolutely stellar career for England under 21's. A goal a game from midfield.

I don't think I'd be in a rush to pay the money they would want for him. I suppose if you got him on loan with an agreed set fee if you decided to make it permanent that could work.
