County Cricket 2026

“So Harry, you won the toss. Looks green, what you going to do?”
“We will have a bat”
“You will have a bat?”
“Yes, and I’m promoting Rehan for number 8 to get us moving”
“Any reason?”
“Vibes bro, vibes”

"Harry, please can you tell us what you discussed in any pre-match meetings heading into this game?"
"Meetings, I don't do meetings, boring, we just need to go harder out there and run to the danger like Baz says"
"In the last game, you were caught on the boundary trying to switch hit Bumrah for six, what different approach will you consider when facing him this time?"
"Just need to go harder, clear the boundary, the shot was right I just need to hit it harder and further"
"Is there any reason you took guard 6 yards down the pitch in your last innings?"
"Running to the danger, need to go harder"

Don't worry Harry, its only Surrey at home, day 1 of the 1st innings with the score 120 odd for 3 with Yorkshire sitting 8th and probably needing to fight for every point to survive this season. You crack on mate.
Id have been f***ing fuming if I was a Yorkshire member. Mind, an angey Yorkshireman is hardly a rarity

Have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a Championship campaign as much as this one. I’ve watched so much county cricket this year on the streams and for all there have been some really dull and boring draws with some even worse pitches; there has been enough entertaining and gripping action to buy into in both Divisions.

Looking forward to following it over the weekend, even if our game isn’t one of those.

Agree. Its become my passion in the last two years. So far I've already been to Northants twice, Lords twice, Trent Bridge and at Headingley this weekend.

Nice to see the back of the Kookaburra ball. The Championship is also getting more recognition after the disaster of the Ashes.

Excellent game week last week. 8 games ended in a win out of 9.

I said earlier, Division 2 is pretty interesting. Every team has won a game and every team seems capable of putting on a good performance so its hard to know how a game will turn out at the start. Plenty of games have had those twists and turns that make the CC so interesting for me.
Leicestershire 44-7!!!!

Leics 47-9 v Essex.

Also known as doing a Worcestershire (on steroids)

So many similarities. Lead of 40 on first innings and capitulation on Day 3.

Hoping none of our obvious rivals for promotion win this weekend. Gloucestershire beating Northants would be lovely, they’re ahead of the game, but not by much.

Derbyshire look likely to beat Middlesex too which pegs the hosts back, but brings Derbyshire into the mix.

When you look at George Hill's stats I'm surprised he never gets talked about for England given the limited red ball bowling options. Averages 30 with the bat coming in at 7/8 and 22 with the ball as first change.

See also Ryan Higgins, averages 35 with bat, 25 with ball. Zimbo born but eligible for England. England don't want medium pace all-rounders.

Feel very sorry for Leicestershire, their lead up to the season was absolutely horrific through little to no fault of their own. If I was a supporter I’d be absolutely furious at Rehan Ahmed. It’s not all his fault of course but they’re in a very bad place currently and from what I’ve seen they look miles off Division One standard.

If Yorkshire win tomorrow, which looks very likely, the bottom two of Leicestershire and Hampshire will be more than a win behind the rest of the field.

At the other end of the table, a full days play at Southampton should see a Notts win that would put them over 20 points clear of second, they’re overwhelming favourites to win that game and I’ve been impressed by how well they’ve picked up where they left off from last year.

In our Division, Northants have five wickets left and they need 105 more runs. We could really do with Gloucestershire getting over the line there, interestingly the forecast suggests there’s a chance they don’t see any play.

Derbyshire should beat Middlesex at Lords, the hosts are 79 ahead with just 2 second innings remaining. The forecast is grim, but not as grim as at Bristol and so they could get enough play to win that game.

Lancashire v Worcestershire seems certain to be drawn, failing a contrived result or another Pears capitulation.

Draws everywhere wouldn’t be a bad outcome at all for us, it would maintain our 20+ point advantage. If Middlesex and Northants both lose, even better.

One would also think that staying in England and playing in the CC would be better preparation for the upcoming Test series rather than flying off to the IPL (where someone mentioned he hasnt even been playing). Especially as a number of England players (not all) are thankfully focusing more on the CC this year (Duckett, Root, Smith, Stokes, Atkinson).

What's going on at Surrey @TheRey? The bowling attacks in general looks to be struggling a bit but the one thing that stands out most to be is the lack of spinner. Dan Lawrence appears to be doing the heavy lifting in the spin department which can't be a good thing?
