Giving up the booze/drugs

But I think that I’ve already said earlier that it was a catch-22 for me: alcohol alleviated some short-term stress but caused long term anxiety. I seem to have trained my brain to accept that my job/life is boring so I don’t need the alcohol fix to make me relaxed for a few hours.

I’ve faced a difficult personal situation over the past month and usually I’d have tried to dull the feelings by drinking. It’s been more bearable by having mental clarity (I’m beginning to sound like a Buddhist monk FFS).

Class mate, it all resonates with my experience too.
It’s not easy, but it’s actually less difficult than drinking all the time when you think about it. Much less stress and anxiety!

Sadly after my dad died I started drinking on a weekend again, I guess at least it's not every night so that's a small win. I will stop again, but the bairn is doing his exams so I have that stress (trying to help him navigate that) on top of my grief stress (so it's a heady mixture).
I'm so proud of everyone on this thread, keep going as best you can my loves 😘 xx

So sorry to hear about your loss
I feel like January is new school year and a new batch of recruits come a knocking, I’m very much alone in that everyone around me still has a drink, but threads like this are excellent ways of finding people curious about stopping, experimenting with stopping or full on giving it up, I’ve really appreciated it.

And here’s the main man, hope your well mate.

EDIT - on that theme, I haven’t seen @Idlewild Mackem kicking about for a little while, hope your well too mate.
Sorry mate I missed this notification. Up and down. Not drinking as much as I used to but a lot of bad habits creeping in again. Frustrating as fuck tbh but trying again. I know the triggers, I just cant seem to stop them.

Recently bought and am reading 'Thirst' by John Robins. Makes for a stark and sometimes very funny read. Recommend it for anyone on here.

Thank you, yeah it's been a horrible time for me and the rest of the family tbh.

How is everyone's weekend looking? Ive cut down massively this last month, drank a couple of times in the last 4 weeks however both were stupid amounts and reminders I'm not much in control of anything past the first one. Sober all week so far and going to be this weekend too.

Have a good one everyone!
Well done mate and not much for me this weekend , I think I'm watching my niece play on Saturday morning then the boxing and Sunday wife at work so just the football and same to you have a good one ❤️
