Southampton spying compendium thread

The mental gymnastics is something else. On the Southampton Forum they're saying the whole thing was entrapment, orchestrated by Boro. There was an analyst who worked at Boro and then at Southampton, he was let go by Tonda Eckert shortly after he assumed the head coach role. This lad then worked with Boro to lull the wet behind the ears intern, the lad contacted Salt telling him an easy way to get into watch and film Boro training and how much it would please Tonda if he got the final training session filmed. But the lad was a double agent working with Boro who were ready and waiting to film Salt doing the spying.
There is a thread on the Saints forums about Harwood-Bellis taking the piss out of Ayling stammer. Everyone thought it was great,
Not one of them critised it, a few posts even calling Ayling a spa####.

They are really doing themselves no favours for a club that no one was ever bothered about before this. Zero class.

Boro were good in the first leg and Southampton were good in the second leg. It's not like they've seen an opportunity to now get to the final as it was all raised prior to the first leg. Hull shouldn't just be given automatic promotion, the infringement wasn't against them.

You can't just award Hull promotion when they had no involvement with the infringement.
Boro weren’t good enough to reach the final over 2 legs. Awarding them a final place is absurd for me. As others have said, wtaf could they have seen to make a difference, boro’s finishing cost them, not some clampet watching their training session from a public area. 100% Southampton need punishing, that punishment for me shouldn’t be boro profiteering when they weren’t good enough in the first place. Everyone has an opinion, I will stick with mine whatever you think. Doesn’t make you or me correct, it’s an opinion and yours is as relevant as mine.

Sou

Southampton company union men...scabs that broke pompey dock strike.. s.c.u.m

Except no such company existed. Urban myth from the 1950's.

Along with ' scummers' which allegedly referred to the Pompey naval dockyard workers regarding the merchant force at Southampton as inferior ' scum '.

Tbf, the mateloes at Portsmouth weren't lads to mess with. 😬

There’s absolutely nothing a young lad with an iPhone could identify that their analysis of the previous 40 or so matches wouldn’t already have pointed out.

It’s almost comical.
What about the bit where the set piece coach says "Ok lads I've been working on a new routine that I think will be particularly effective against Southampton. They won't be expecting it"

Ha'way man, some people struggle to understand if you play the ball backwards you can be offside still, or if you throw the ball direct into either goal it isn't a goal.
I bet even fewer know that an offside player can be fouled and a penna given (or a red card) with this little beauty in Law 11 - Offside 🤪

A player in an offside position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence.

Then let them play that way. Southampton broke the rules so imho should forfeit the first leg. Home win 3-0. Doing it retrospectively shouldn't be a problem.

The Play Off Final appears to be the least of Southampton's worries given all the other teams reported to be providing evidence to support allegations of doing this throughout the season.
That's not the usual punishment though, that's the absolute maximum punishment. It will probably be a big fine.

How good or bad Boro were is irrelevant imo.

It’s a rule breach. Whatever happens Southampton can’t complain.
Having two coaches in the technical area is a rule breach. Should we stop the game and award the other team the points because we don’t know what advantage they might have gained from it.

For me, Southampton should be punished, but it’s a fine. You can’t throw them out for this because there’s no way to measure the impact of the infringement. Genuinely can’t believe people are still talking about it.

How they played is totally irrelevant. If the league believe that what has happened is enough to boot them out then Boro are the obvious replacement. Fuck knows why anyone’s talking about how either team played.

It’s definitely been an eye opening thread. I had no idea that people who follow football could have no idea what so ever what goes on in training and how watching a teams session can give you an insight into how they plan to approach the game.
People are just out of touch, you see it all the time on here. Jumpers for goalposts, 4-4-2, big man little man up front etc. Will happen to all of us, I shit myself when we play out from the back at times but the kids don’t bat an eye.

I've never liked their fans. They and the club have come across very badly the last week or so.

Which is a complete waste of time given the rewards for winning. It serves no deterrent at all to put the end to anymore 'incidents'.

Given this is the 1st case to be put before the powers that be, since the new rules imposition, the rule will be a complete toothless tiger, and utterly dead in the water going forward.

If Saints are going with the "lone wolf" defence then Salty needs to hand over his phone to prove he hasn't passed footage to anyone else. If he's sent footage or live streamed, as it appears, then anyone at Southampton who's viewed that footage has committed the offence too by "observing indirectly".
If the offence is judged at the civil standard "on the balance of probabilities" rather than criminal "beyond a reasonable doubt" then a refusal to hand over the phone can be taken as evidence he's telling fibs and there are others involved.

What could they have seen? Only their entire game plan.

It needs to be a strong enough punishment to stop others doing it, if it's something daft like £10m but they get promoted then it's not a deterrent.

That is disgusting. Taking the piss out of Ayling's stammer is just unacceptable and needs to be addressed with some sort of action. It is also almost beyond dispute that Southampton have cheated. They should not get promotion. However, I feel the fact that thousands of Saints fans have now bought tickets and, no doubt, booked trains, accomodation etc. suggests to me that they are going to be allowed to play the final. The EFL will have allowed the Saints to put their tickets on sale. Come on Hull!!!
