Southampton spying compendium thread

Can’t understand why the lad didn’t meander along the river Tees and film from the south side of the training ground where he was more unlikely to have been caught , could have pretended to be a twitcher if someone noticed him.

Not much forward planning gone into this me thinks.

Plenty of cheating happens in matches. Sly tugs, pretend fouls for penalties, players feining injury to delay the match.Clubs altering the pitch width etc.Players sent off ,yet remain on the pitch,no action taken in cup tie against SAFC when Peter Reid was manager .Oldham ?
I’d imagine those who dislike Sotons cheating aren’t advocating allowing infield shenanigans to go unpunished marra.
How on earth can’t people grasp that boros performance has absolutely nothing to do with the offence ? How can’t people also grasp that boros performance could possibly have been down to Southampton having inside knowledge of their system, set pieces, tactics and such. I mean they might not have got that much info but they also might have and even still it’s the act of attempting that’s the crime.
I find it amazing how many can’t comprehend this. It’s an eye opener. I wonder how old they are?

It’s definitely been an eye opening thread. I had no idea that people who follow football could have no idea what so ever what goes on in training and how watching a teams session can give you an insight into how they plan to approach the game.

Bollox is it a major factor in why Boro lost. Boro weren’t great over 2 legs. It’s an attempt to get back in. Southampton should be punished by allowing Hull to go through and a subsequent points deduction.
People can argue this point forever.
What can't be argued about is the fact that somebody from Southampton was at Boro's training ground observing (at the very least) our preparations for an important play off game - which is against the rules.
That immediately puts Boro at a disadvantage.
Whether that had an impact on the result will never be truthfully known, but the fact remains that somebody from our opponents broke the rules (with obvious intent) - if proven.
That surely means that we have every right to question the result.

If it turns out that Southampton are punished and Hull are awarded promotion on the back of that then fair enough, but at the same time it's not a 'given' that Boro's performance wasn't affected by it all - that was obviously the reason for spying, surely.

I bet all the Saints fans who were at the game on Tuesday with binoculars and dressed as bushes aren't laughing so much now. 🤣

Harwood-Bellis was giving it that binoculars celebration to one of the Boro players when they scored the winner. Celebrating in the face of an opponent is a twattish thing to do at the best of times, never mind given the underlying circumstances. He seems like a right nob.

100% - And the fact is we we equally as 'good' as Southampton over 180 minutes - so not sure where the claims we were shite are from (except the fact we can't score). Any tiny advantage Southampton MAY have got watching training could have cost 1 goal in the first leg which would have seen us progress. If Boro had done this, not Southampton then I'd be expecting us to be kicked out or a 3-0 first leg.
Exactly.
Things is too - you get people (from all clubs) endlessly moaning about 'corrupt referees ', 'var being all for the bigger clubs' , 'players / clubs should be punished for cheating' , 'the game's gone' etc etc, yet when Steve Gibson tries to actually do something about blatant cheating he gets slated for it.

I think on balance, the majority are on 'boros side on here.

Im not sure the spying played a part in boro missing a ton of good chances at the riverside.

Think the EFL were praying Boro won the tie so it didn't need to come to this. If It goes ahead It needs an unlikely hull win in the final or this will rumble on and on

To my mind there is no way the FL is going to abandon the idea of having a Play Off Final if it can possibly help it. There's far too much money involved and they have sponsors who have been promised and who have paid for a football final .

Having to postpone the game would be bad enough but one way or the other Hull will be obliged to win promotion on the field -if it wins it at all- rather than just being promoted by default.

There's more at stake here than just the fans being inconvenienced (which most would agree is bad enough) or Southampton being potentially disqualified because a few of their employees have behaved like arseholes. I believe that if the FL have the evidence they will hang Southampton out to dry more for the chaos that they have created rather than the actual offence.

They're all over the phone ins and internet tying themselves in knots to deny what happened, innocent until proven guilty, not proven he worked for Southampton etc etc, and you expect that I suppose. But my goodness they are coming across as the second most entitled, deluded and obnoxious set of fans I have ever heard. Have they always been a bunch of twats?

Being within the pyramid are probably the only thing they have in common though, and PL would happily get out of that if they could. They don’t even need to enforce each other’s punishments that’s how little the PL care for the EFL.

Man City isn’t over yet so they might if found guilty receive a greater penalty than most think. For me financial breaches are given more ‘lenient’ punishment because it’s harder to quantify how the cheating helped. Playing an eligible player or spying on your opponents is a single game and is easy to award a 3-0 win to them.

If it’s just 1 lone wolf filming on his phone and that video never got back to Southampton coaches then it would be crackers but if they saw the video and didn’t report it then they knew and allowed it, for me they deserve to be kicked out. Don’t care of the video was only them messing around taking shots at the keeper or if it was them doing pens it’s cheating and they knew and covered up.

Nobody knows the extent of the cheating (if any) but if it has happened and Southampton gained even 0.1% of of advantage precedent needs setting and that’s being kicked out, 1 goal changed the whole situation over 210+ minutes a tiny advantage is huge.
Im on about the man city charges from about 10 years ago where they admitted guilt. I dont agree that punishment for financial doping could carry a less severe pubishment. Literally allowed them to buy trophies and qualify for the champions league.

I disagree about the severity of punishment for Southampton particularly if a one off. But thats just my view. We'll soon see what the actual pubishment is.

It's just what any club's fans would be saying though isn't it? It's what football fans do.
