Southampton spying compendium thread

I really can’t see Southampton being chucked out of the play offs. I suspect they will get a whacking fine, and maybe even a suspended points deduction, but the EFL will be hugely concerned about legal action.

The EFL will be desperate for Hull to win next week
Its surely the only course of action to avoid/minimise the massive legal battle that is coming from the other teams, who having trawled through CCTV, think they also have a case against them.

They have to forfeit their game against Burra, 3-0 home win, so the aggregate score is 4-2 in Burra's favour. Let them play the final against Hull. Whoever wins goes up on merit, on a level playing field. Southampton for me CANNOT be allowed to progress to the PL or next year will be the Season of the Drones. Every club will be at it due to the rewards outweighing the risks. A fine is utterly meaningless imho unless, maybe it also comes with transfer embargos and/or huge points deduction as well.

If they're removed from the play offs, then through the summer the other clubs can put their cases, provide evidence and let Southampton offer a defence/mitigating circumstances. But my personal feeling is that EFL need to throw the absolute book at them, heavy/maximum penalties to send a clear message out about cheating. Relegation to L1, points deduction AND transfer embargo along with a fine. Draw a line in the sand. Then going forward it either stops or people recognise that the risk isn't worth the reward.

Always honest in my judgements.
If we're beaten fairly then yep, fair enough I say so.
But, Southampton broke the rules and in my opinion should pay the consequence for that, otherwise it just becomes a free for all for anyone that decides to cheat.
Obviously, as a Boro fan I'd prefer it for us to take their place in the final, seeing as we were the ones cheated against, but the main thing in my opinion is that cheats don't get rewarded for it - so if Southampton get disqualified and Hull get promoted without playing the final, whilst personally i'd be 'disappointed' , it would still be preferable to Southampton getting away with it.

You just have - twice
That won't happen. Massive showpiece final. The way it's looking to me, with delays and debate, final delayed one week. If that's even possible. Wembley may be booked.

Never read that anywhere, why would he do it though ?

Then what information did he pass back and to who , if any ?

Proper can of worms this mind.

Southampton has accepted an EFL misconduct charge after a staff member was caught spying on Middlesbrough’s training, but the club is arguing the analyst acted as a "lone wolf" rather than under orders. The incident, which involved filming, has cast doubt on their upcoming play-off final against Hull City on May 23. [ , , , ]

Why would you break the rules, risk being punished, if it was of no advantage.
Southampton clearly thought it was very worthwhile. But wait, some bloke on the internet thinks it makes no difference
This!

Boro getting backed on the exchanges, always interesting to follow as you'd expect a few people in the know will be telling family/friends etc what is happening.
It can but it can also be people hoying a fiver/tenner as a gamble drives down the odds and then you have the FOMO effect. It's now climbing back up again.

You can see when odds dropped and it was just after the EFL statement as that probably prompted all the 'chancer' bets but it's now going back up.

Hopefully the Bereh get given the promotion after a double Gibson suing attack.

Fancy walloping them home and away again

This is taking time as whilst I think everyone knows they have broken the rule the EFL won’t risk removing the opportunity to compete for PL money simply based on that.

The risk of legal challenge wherever they land on a decision is highly likely and means they will breaking their neck to ensure that any punishment is viewed as proportionate and reasonable.

you can break a rule at work but the extent of the punishment (warning, final warning, dismissal) then depends on how they assess and judge the severity of the rule break.

This isn’t about the football anymore it’s all about the legal aspect and the EFL ensuring they can give themselves some kind of protection legally.

Complicated matter.

I would say if he was under orders of the club then being thrown out of the playoffs is reasonable

If it can be shown that he acted a lone then I would be happy with a lesser punishment.

Rescheduling the playoff final would be a total pain for all concerned.

Discussed yes , but nowhere near the meltdown some so called Sunderland fans are having on here..this Southampton guy who was apparently spying on them, what info was he supposed to have got ? as from what I seen in both games it can’t of been much as Southampton were poor and boro not much better 🤷🏻‍♂️ just seems like a poor excuse now both games have been played and they’re out at this moment in time ,nowt would of been said if they’d went through as I already mentioned imo

Team shape
Defensive line
Pressing traps
Set piece routines

But aye they gained nothing. Why even appooint managers and coaches 🤣
