Southampton spying compendium thread

Yeah my post was more in response to another poster suggesting that this would open Southampton up to litigation from all of the other clubs in the league. Tbh though I was getting myself confused and it’s safe to say I’m no jurisprudent.
Oh fair, didn’t read the other post you were replying to, apologies.

Apparently though, the lad who allegedly was at Boro bought a coffee on his card at Rockcliffe. So maybe if other clubs can prove transactions that are close to an upcoming game they had with S’oton then who knows. The naïveté in me likes to believe this is an isolated incident, but when Leeds got caught apparently they did it on numerous occasions. Makes for good drama though, can’t wait for the 3-part Netflix special

Dunno mate. If this Salt character took it upon himself to drive his car full tilt into the Boro players during the training, are Southampton responsible for his actions.
No, because it would be a stretch to argue that is linked to his role (even if it would make the Southampton task 'easier' - attempted murder isn't usually a club ambition or function!)

100% this thread isn’t happening if it was the mags not boro.
I bet my right knacker it would. Whether it was Newcastle who were caught spying before a semi final, or vice-versa. This is arguably the biggest drama story of the season.

If Coventry were caught doing it to us right before we played them up here and they beat us to knock us out, your head would still be on mars to this day mate, as would mine be.

I will be baffled if the EFL make an official decision on this before the final.

This is the EFL we are talking about, one of the most disorganised organisations to exist.

They’re absolutely clueless on how to approach any controversies. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just twiddling their thumbs until the play off final is settled.

Then it’ll just be a large compensation due to Boro from a fine against Southampton - in the millions.

Winning manager Ardiles was hoping for clemency in the courts, saying that it would be "an absolute tragedy" if Swindon's promotion was not upheld. He added: "Right now we are in the First Division. This is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life."

Ten days after the final, Swindon were found guilty on 35 counts of illegal player payments and were given a two-division relegation. Initially this meant that Sunderland were promoted to the First Division in Swindon's place, and were promoted from the Third Division to the Second Division. Following an appeal, Swindon's penalty was reduced to a one-division relegation and Tranmere's promotion was revoked, the condemnation of which was heard in an sponsored primarily by , the MP for .

Relegate Southampton to League One and let Sheff Wed, Oxford and Leicester have a mini tournament to stay in the Championship, great idea that 🤣

Playing devils advocate though. What if the spy managed to map out all of their set piece routines?

Boro seemed very ineffective in the air, and yet Taggart was playing some loveley dead balls into the box, and so what it the spy resulted in Southampton being able to not concede where they otherwise would have if they hadn’t known Boro’s routines in advance?
There’s bin a murdah

Or they boot them out of playoffs and Boro get to the final and possibly even relegate Southampton given the amount of teams supposedly giving Boro evidence. That's surely got to be serious rule breaking if it's been done to so many teams.

The problem is that Southampton will have a right of appeal against any decision, which they would undoubtedly use. We could end up in a situation where the final has to be postponed until a final decision is reached. I'm not sure there are too many options beyond letting the final play out and deciding sanctions afterwards.

The only downside is Boro agreeing to play the s/f games. Should have refused until the outcome of the investigation was known. They've put themselves in a position where they claim their opponents cheated but agreed to continue anyway? Madness, given the EFL a possible 'out', should have put them in a position of having to make a decision asap.

Tbf, Boro would have left themselves open to punishment themselves for refusing to fulfill a fixture....and they have history of being burnt when refusing to play games.......

Tricky. Rogue employee acting unilaterally and going totally off-piste on some wild mission, without his employer's knowledge.
If the scenario is that the intern went off and watched the training, didn’t tell anyone, but then offered bits of advice to the management set-up based on this knowledge he secretly has hoping to make himself look good, then they would still be guilty wouldn’t they?

Might be different if it was the tea lady. But a first team analyst?

Yes, I dont know why you are saying that to me. You need to read the posts around my reply. How might they be guilty if they declined the info and told him to behave himself.
