Southampton spying compendium thread

Yeah i think so. I was very much of the view they get a fine and something like suspended points deduction, but does feel now like they could potentially boot them out of the play offs.
A fine? They’re cheating so that they can get promoted and “earn” over £200m. They’d have to be fined OVER £200m for there to be any deterrent to cheating! A fine can’t possibly be the answer.

Howsabout all of these:
A/ Kick them out of the playoffs.
B/ Ban them from promotion for ten years.
C/ Ban them from the FLC for ten years.
D/ Ban them from the FAC for ten years.
And then fine the feckers.

Don’t get me started on Chelsea and City mind ;)

An amazing number of posters seem to mention that Boro couldn’t beat them at home or score etc etc. surely there not all as think as shit? WTF difference does that make? The score in the first leg is irrelevant, the score in the second leg is irrelevant, the aggregate score is irrelevant, the £200m is irrelevant.
Southampton cheated and that’s it.
Agreed but I don’t think the fact they cheated is where the EFL are right now, I think they already know that.

It’s now about what the level of punishment is and that then goes beyond just a rule break.

The EFL will be desperate to cover their arses legally, was the punishment proportionate and based on solid evidence it’ll need to be as the lawyers will be all over whatever they decide

I think some of those suggested punishments are a tad harsh mate. 😂

Latest BBC article says that although a points deduction carried into the PL can't be enforced, they can still request that the PL carry over the punishment from the EFL. It still wouldn't change the fact that they'd still likely get relegated but with £200m though.

Only allowed to sign players over the age of 36 for 10 years as well. Missed that one off.
Nah

Ban on any incoming or outgoing transfers over the next season

Have to spend their 200 mill should they get promoted on brand new contracts for the existing squad, with no relegation clause

In my opinion the breaking of the rule will be the first thing they establish but all that does for me is then give them the green light to look at a load of other information.

The EFL will want to ensure they can demonstrate that the punishment dished out is proportionate in order to protect themselves as much as they against the inevitable legal action which will follow their decision (from either Boro or Southampton)

They’ll look at intent, type of information gathered, how it was used, was it known throughout the club, who knew etc etc etc

Rightly or wrongly if they went through all that and found there wasn’t that much information gathered, of not much significance then no way would they stop Southampton playing in the final. Similarly if that evidence gathering is damning then they would feel more confident doing exactly that.

Sadly the decision won’t be about sporting integrity, whatever they say, the EFL will now be in self protection mode and desperate to have their decision seen, legally, as proportionate and reasonable given the circumstances.
“Wasn’t that much information gathered”! WTF? Even if there was no information gathered they’ve still attempted to deliberately break the FLs rules n regs. A lad at works BIL is a Soton fan and he’s fearing the worst. Rightly so.
