Southampton spying compendium thread

Kick Southampton out, points deduction and fine for next season.

Boro v Hull final.

would be a great solution.

but if Southampton appeal it and take it through the courts and win, then what? it would be half way into next season

the whole thing is a shit-show. the FA needed to review the evidence immediately and quickly decide what they were going to do instead of hoping southampton lost last night, which was clearly their number one tactic

But then you could argue that the reason Boro didn't get to the final was because of the alleged cheating.

Also, on a similar note - didn't sunderland get 'awarded' a promotion when they were beaten in a play off final ?
Aye, but the guilty team were our co-finalists. We got through the semi.

FWIW, I hope Southampton get done, but I'm not sure it can be sorted in time to allow Boro to have another bite of the cherry.

Some of the Southampton antics and the spying might be a bit shit, but I'd be absolutely staggered if there is anything but a heavy fine.

Surely there's no way on earth they are booted from the playoffs
I don't think the punishment will be them thrown out of the play offs. I think they will forfeit the first game like what would happen if they fielded an ineligible players and handed a 3-0 loss. Boro go through on aggregate

Yes, and if Southampton are 'found guilty' then the guilty team were our co-semi finalists - and we (their opponents) were the team that were cheated against.

I don't think my last point was true in Sunderland's case?

I'd say there is no chance of that either. Giving them a 3-0 is booting them out of the play offs

Be amazed

I'm not disagreeing with you, but if Southampton get done in due course it's 'easy' to just promote Hull in their place, should Southampton win.

Assuming Southampton do ultimately contest the final, unpicking things to allow Boro back in will be very difficult.

Aye fair enough.
I too reckon that if Southampton get disqualified it will be Hull that benefit and not us.
Just saying I don't agree with it.

This.
It’s exactly what they wanted to happen. Unfortunately they now have to make a decision which will be another calamity.

you've missed coventry off. I'm sure they should suffer something aswell

not really. Just let Boro go to the final. Same logic and principle as yours. Just applied to the first game in the playoff campaign

If they use the Swindon scenario as a guide (and don’t forget that Swindon’s irregularities disadvantaged every other team in the league, who followed the rules) - then Southampton could play in the final but, after the case is heard, Hull could go up (as we did).

If they kick out Southampton beforehand, then it gets tricky. Boro can say they were directly disadvantaged, Wrexham could argue they should have made the play-offs, and even Millwall, as the third team, could look for an angle.

Another option is not to have a final and award it to Hull, (or else they would also have a case if Boro were to beat them).

Abort the playoffs as there are too many variables at play ... promote Millwall for finishing 3rd. Sit back.

I concur. Think its early June before the fixtures are announced.
Plus the relegated teams have to give up their membership

I also think it’s nearly 40 year ago that happened. It should be similar punishment but with the money at stake these days it’s a lot more litigious so it’s definitely factor

Clutching at straws here mind, if the Southampton spy's report was so good why were they absolutely battered by Boro on Saturday, I saw the first half before travelling up to see us, if tiptoe Tommy could finish they'd have been carrying at least a 2 goal advantage into the second leg. In fact if he could finish they would have been up automatically. FTM and the Smogs.

I think it'll just be as simple as letting them play the final as it is, then inevitably if Southampton win, awarding Hull the promotion.

If Southampton don't win, then they will be deducted a good few points at the start of next season.

It's got to be decided before the the final your scenario will never come into play
