Southampton spying compendium thread

If they've been caught red handed, which it sounds like they have, all the left to do is to decide the sanctions. Surely that can and needs to be done before the final
Thats not what happens in the real world.

There will be a legal right to an appeal, which the club will undoubtedly take. Plus the EFL have already asked Southampton for evidence. You can't be making decisions that impact hundreds of millions of pounds without being legally watertight or a thorough appeals process man

Its not Eastenders.

Like I said, if they've been caught blatantly cheating, which they have, then sanctions take days not weeks.

Can't see that washing personally. They literally caught him red handed with all the gear and stuff to change his appearance. Even if that's all they found, it's still worthy of a strong punishment imo.
I totally agree but if they find them guilty it's going to be an absolute nightmare for them to sort out. Boro were the ones wronged so they can't really promote Hull (if they lose to Southampton in the final). A fine would be pathetic and no deterrent whatsoever to any other club doing it in future, they'd all be at it in the hope of gaining £250 million by getting promoted. I've no idea how they will sort it out.

I'm really struggling to see a way out of this for the EFL where they don't look like a shower of shite. Southampton shouldn't have been allowed to play in the semi finals if they're to be expelled from the playoffs and it's unfair on Boro to let whoever is in the final take Southamptons place if they went up. The EFL can't force a points deduction in the PL. They're never going to give Southampton a 3-0 defeat in the first leg because that would've changed the whole dynamic of the second leg. They can obviously issue a fine but no way is that enough of a punishment.

But then, where do you stop? If it transpires that Southampton have been doing it since the german took over then every team who missed out on the playoffs has a case as well. The likes of Wrexham who got battered by Southampton quite randomly as well. Southampton winning last night has made it 10x worse for the EFL.

Looking at football articles, it seems several other clubs have experienced similar issues with Southampton " Spygate " this season.

What gets me is the Southampton powers that be won't deny or admit it happened, which suggests it likely did. If you were accused of doing something you didn't do, damn sure you'd let everyone know you were innocent!

The fact Boro allegedly/apparently have photographs of the 'spy" and he's established as an employee of Saints set-up could be damning.

If found guilty, Southampton should be booted out.

What's the point of giving, say, a £200k or even £500k fine when they'll get £200m from being in the PL.

If they've transgressed, why should they be rewarded with £200m ??? If guilty, the punishment shoukd exceed the crime, not be " You cheated to gain an advantage. We're fining you £200k, but welcome to the PL and here's £200m to help you along "

Couldn't care less if it's Boro they spied on, it's the principle at stake.

Hope and pray Hull beat them, or it'll be a right mess over the next few months.

Provided Southampton is guilty . We mustn't rush to conclusions although the FL needs to get its finger out.
Suggestion is amongst multiple journalist is they’ve admitted it happened before the Boro game. They are trying to claim the intern acted alone - which it sounds like the EFL will largely ignore. But also seems to be suggestion that this is not the first time they’ve done it

The more I read into it the more I genuinely think they'll put Boro in the final. It's the fairest solution I can think of to be honest.

And then the appeals process? Its nowhere near as quick as people sre making out and its only been a few days since it happened.

They may well get kicked out, but people thinking it can be done within hours are a bit idealistic. Look how ling Manchester City thing has gone on.

Its a massive can of worms

City have denied the charges, don't get me wrong it's ridiculous how long it's taken, Southampton have admitted to it and there are 4 or 5 outcomes listed in the rules, as long as the EFL select one of those outcomes then there's nothing to appeal.

They haven't been found guilty yet though, only charged. Even though they almost certainly are they have to be given chance to put their side across. They will need to work bloody fast to find them guilty and put Boro in the final, it's only next weekend.

If only things were that simple though. You've already got boro fans saying if they get a fine and not expelled then Boro should appeal and get lawyers. Thats another complexity to it.

I've just read that Southampton cant appeal to CaS but to an efl board.

All of this is also unfair on Hull not knowing who to prepare for.

Can guarantee that Boro will get back in and they'll go up. Thats the way things just happen.

i can't imagine the league will move that quickly... the precedence would be for them to drag the heels & pray Hull to go up... based on events close to home (obviously we were no help at all to the league that day! ).
