County Cricket 2026

Another case of the sub rule throwing up a strange occurrence. Middlesex keeper is knackered so they’ve had to go to Yorkshire to loan Harry Duke mid game!

Rew out for 0 opening again.

He was part of a Tom Norton hat-trick.

That pitch looked dangerous in the last session, particularly the ball that teared up off a length and hit Thomas on the shoulder.

Somerset on 32-6 after securing a first innings lead of 125, may well lose a game for a second consecutive week when they appeared to have got themselves into an unassailable position.

Some of our test players seem to have forgotten how to play because of bazball.

Thank fk Root still knows how to play properly.

That wicket was a disgrace yesterday mind, I’ve been a big critic of the recklessness of the England team in the last year, but there were a lot of batsmen in the first innings of that game who decided the best way to survive was to go very hard at the ball.
Assuming it's the sort of wicket where it's just throw the bat.

But you've still got to play the ball coming at you!

That’s the way I saw it after Day 1.

Interestingly, there have been a few pitches up and down the country in recent weeks where it appears clear that teams have realised that wins are the key to success, even though you can gain nearly as much points for a draw than a win. Lancashire appear headed for a result one way or another in their game against Middlesex - their pitch at home to Derbyshire in their last game at HQ was similar.

Could olly stone be in with a shout of making a test appearance this summer, seems fit and bowling well

Given Somerset are 32-6 fair to say tough conditions
Fair play to Rew moving up the order then trying to open - clear that's the only batting spot available.

For me it's an
Opener from -
Rew
Sibley based on form
Mckinney
Gay

4th seamer for the squad alongside (Archer, Tongue, Atkinson)
Robinson
Stone
Cook
Anderson based on form!

Spinner from
Carson
R Ahmed
Crane based on form

Based on how the England setup tend to pick their quickies my outside bet for the 4th seamer would be Sonny Baker.

Gus Atkinson has suffered a concussion.

Dont know if this makes him doubtful for the first test.

Means he will miss the last CC game next week before the first test. It feels like he hasn't played a lot of cricket so far this season, so might be a bit undercooked for the New Zealand series.

Bit of a recovery in the end from Somerset. They've given Glamorgan something to chase.

Fantastic final day in prospect there. Somerset appear favourites with the late wickets they took, but I still reckon there’s drama to be had there.
Yeah weird Lewis Gregory batting 10, he is a 6 or 7 easily and has even opened on occasions

Leach went in earlier as a nightwatchman, he batted 8 in the first innings.
