Paying at the turnstiles early 80s and 90s

Not many getting left out

Big away following and most staying till the bell home and away
1 for the turnstile operators back pocket 2 for the club was the normal. Why tickets were introduced in the 90s even at non league level. The amount of money clubs lost was I think discovered by a non league club in the Midlands when the owner managed the turnstiles for a few games. Horrific. Can't remember clubs name but it's out there somewhere.

They used to pocket loads on some games. I remember a few games where Roker Park was absolutely packed way above capacity, you couldn't breathe when the crowd surged and had to wait for it to surge back again. Then the official attendance would be announced as 18000 or something stupid

Those were the days, beats this modern day shite when you've got to plan attending a match like a military operation
One of the reasons I finally wrapped in Jack.
Need to plan months ahead, especially for London / games with decent travel. Then TV moves the times!!
Sky TV money has obviously changed the game for the better, in many ways. Overseas players being the main one for me. It has also made the game far better for the armchair viewer. Totally ruined the experience for those of us who went week in, week out.

Not the main reason why I didn't renew this season but very high in the mitigating list

Was mint being in the pub on a Friday night then someone saying who fancies going to wherever we were playing tomorrow then piling into a car the next morning and going.
Like already said it's like a bloody military operation these days for away games.
Still persevering with it but the older I get the bigger chew on it seems.

I always remember a Saturday morning in the house and my dad turns to us and goes, ah Haway man let’s go to Barnsley. Got dressed while my mam made us some sarnies and off we went. I miss them times.
