Shouldn't these lads be playing L1 or L2 football? If they're not good enough to get minutes at that level, they're never going to be good enough for the Premier League in 1-2 years.

He wouldn't play Finn or Abdullahi against Port Vale when we were crying out for them to get on. How many time has a U21 player made an appearance for the first team this season in the league?
I think the pathway into the first team has just changed now.

When we were in the championship we could blood players in ourselves.

Now that we are in the prem, we need to blood them in through the loan system. Look at Rigg this year, and consider that he was a regular starter for us the last couple of years. And so instead of young players being thrown in at the deep end, they will get incrementally improving loans each year until they make it to the prem level.

I could be wrong, but I would imagine players like Finn will be getting lower league loans next year. And if we aren’t knocked out of the league cup in the first round next year there ought to be more opertunities next year for those that don’t secure a loan. We did try to get a loan for jenson jones, so it’s not like they have intentionally stifled his progress.

The match we were losing to port vale in the fa cup wasn’t a match to piss about bringing kids on. He picked the starting lineup he did because we were taking the cup seriously. And he didn’t bring the kids on because we weren’t winning comfortably. I’m sure if it had been 5-0 at half time we would have seen more playing time for the kids.

Agree if they have potential should be loaned out.

We should be looking abroad aswel . If Hemir got a few games in the Portuguese top flight some of our more technical players might be more suited to that league to begin with .
Or we clearly scout in Belgium why not try get some of them out over there .
League one and two has its place for the more physical lads .

I really like him but I think he will come up short for our first team but what we have to stay doing is getting them out on good loans and then selling them on for a million or so

20 in October, sadly he won't make it here just like the others as no pathway to the first team starting XI. U18s coming through will be ahead of him
That is the reality now we are in the Prem. People rave about Gergusian but he's a long way off first team level and its by no means certain that he will get to Premier level, although he has a chance. Its a big challenge for the whole Academy set up both from a recuitment standpoint and regarding how they develop talent.

Lads like him will be mainly used to earn the club money now, which on one hand is a shame, but it’s the reality of elite football. Very few come through from academy to first team at the same club.

We’ll be looking to get him out on loan for the next season or 2 and then hope to sell for a fee.

Tommy Watson had a handful of decent championship games and went for £10m, they’ll be hoping lads like this can do similar.

Should that not be the other way around? Get the technical players in the physical league to toughen them up. And get the big lads in the technical league to teach them how to play?

i'm surprised we haven't done a deal with one of the clubs on the continent we've done business with to get a loan out for these lads

By this age it’s a bit late, if they’re not technical by 20 they’re not going to be. And if they’re small they’re small & won’t change massively.

To put it into context:

He's the same age as: Junior Kroupi, Rayan, Lewis-Skelly, Bergvall.

He's a year older than: Rigg, Estevao, Mane, Josh King, Nwaneri

There's not many 20 years olds breaking into Premier League teams when they've not had a sniff of first team football before that.

Does Rigg count?

It was ridiculous that port vale thing like. Just throw them on.

Come a long way development wise over this season. Hope he continues to grow and beef up a bit in the summer and hopefully make a decision about where he'll be after the pre season.
