Creativity poor

Fair. I'm certainly not beyond saying RLB can get things wrong. He did take too long to change things away at Man U when we were getting hammered at 1-0 down and it should have been changed ASAP before it got to 2-0 and we didn't. We then changed once we went 2-0 down and made a fist of the game. If we'd changed it sooner we may have got something out of the game.

Overall though, I see progression for us as being about evolution rather than revolution. Most of what we've done this season has been effective with the squad we have and we can't/shouldn't seek to change too much, too quickly and we could go backwards.

Having more physical, pacey wingers looking to run in behind and tussle with full backs whilst chasing balls down played in behind the opponent's backline (ala Brentford with Schade and Ourttara) would help us a lot however. That should suit the way we play a lot of the time where we like to be deep rather than pressing opponents in their own half. Crucially, it would give us a more direct route out from the back and stop us short passing our way into trouble when we are under a high press like against Forest.

Obviously coaching the team to play to those tactics will still be needed but right now I think the issue is we don't have many, if any, wingers available who have the combination of strength and pace to do that. Maybe Angulo? The likes of Rigg and Le Fee are the last sort of players who you would look to do that with.
I like that Ouattara - and I know he used to work with RLB and Enzo when breaking through (at L'Orient - he was on that TNT Sports RLB documentary a few months back saying how RLB helped him become what he is today) however as they paid up to around £40m for him and only 12 months ago I doubt we'd have much chance. Possibly one for 2027 if Regis is still here...?

Another thread where some need to get a grip. Yes, creativity is the issue to try and address in the summer, but we won’t just become some free scoring side. Generally we’re a defensively solid, tough team to beat - which reflects our city and what we like to see from a Sunderland team. We’re a poorer version of Athletico Madrid - and we should be happy we’re even that at this stage.

When some say we should ‘be ruthless’ they’re really saying ‘be stupid and impatient’. If the rest of the football world saw some of the comments coming from our supporters they’d be rightly laughing.

I hadn't realised RLB had worked with him actually. Agree we don't have a chance of getting Outtarra atm given the money Brentford paid and where they are as a club like you say though. I guess it's more just the type of player I think would help us.

Traoré has been a massive miss. We look so much more dangerous with him in the team.

Other than Traoré no one has really nailed down a place on either wing.

We have been playing players like Enzo and Rigg not in their preferred role to fill the gaps.

Talbi has done well in some matches then dropped for the next.

The wings are a concern and it needs sorting next season if we are to improve our attacking output.
