Durham v Worcestershire [a] C.C. 8/5/26

Well the run continues into the 5th game and looking at the strength of Durhams batting and the lack of cutting edge in any of the opposition attacks I could be starting these threads for a while yet.
Another quick change around for the visit to Worcestershire who to be fair to them have got off to a decent start to the season with 2 wins in their first 4 matches.
As far as Durham goes it looks very likely there will be at least a couple of changes to the Xl that started at Lords. If Stokes is fit and available then I think its fairly straightforward he comes in for Clark. Then depending on the fitness and availability of the bowlers I would imagine Luke Robinson would stay in the team if Roach is not available. The only other issuse I can see is if England want Potts rested but it doesn't look like he will be involved at the start of England's summer.
Anyway my Xl would be

Lees
Mckinney
Gay
Bedingham
Stokes
Robinson
Aldridge
Raine
Potts
Parkinson
Robinson

Looking at the weather forecast it looks like there could be the threat of rain on most days.

I wonder how close Hogg and Minto are to the team. I hope there's a chance for later in the season that we could have a bowling attack of Potts and Raine with two of Minto, Robinson, Hogg.

With Potts, I also wonder if England will come calling for him at all. After all, he was mostly spectating over the winter and when he did get on the pitch he didn't impress much. I confess I've assumed that he won't go with England unless he puts some seriously good numbers in with Durham, and I don't think he's done enough yet.

Does Stokes not potentially come in for Roach / Luke Robinson?

Stokes 5, Clark 6, Robinson 7.

Potts, Raine, Aldridge and Stokes as seam attack
I think with the amount of bowling Potts and Raine have had to do then an extra genuine bowling option is better especially as Durhams batting line up is very good in this division. Also Stokes will probably be on restricted amount of overs.

Good luck to anyone who tries to enforce that. 😀
If Rhodes performs he has to come into the reckoning offering an extra bowling option but probably not until Beckenham.
It would be harsh to drop Clark imo.
Stokes for Robinson.L. only change for me.

What the heck is even up with Rhodes?

Playing club cricket currently. I find the whole situation with him wild a top 3 batsman that captained Warks to a CC and we've got him back as an all rounder that he started his career doing. Perhaps we expected to lose Lees/McKinney and that didn't happen and then he's just a spare part.

Only just found out maybe why he came up here anyway. His wife is someone that went to my school in Northumberland so must have moved up to be closer to her family.

Only just found out his reason for coming up here in the first place. His wife is someone that went to my school in Northumberland so must have moved up to be closer to her family.

Playing for 2nd XI today

According to Harmy on the Talksport County Cricket podcast Stokes is available for the next two.

One of my favourite away days. Unfortunately I’ve not made it down there since 2022. I ended up at Kidderminster in 2024 due to the flooding which doesn’t exactly boast New Road’s charm.

Can’t go this year either as I have family visiting but I will be watching as much as possible.

It's the luck of the fixture list but I think the Worcestershire members have seen nearly as much of Stokes in championship cricket as Durham members have.

Made the point elsewhere that it’s really shit that his return coincides with a three game away trip so Durham members won’t get to see him.

No Potts or overseas bowler for this one so it will be interesting to see our lineup, maybe something lime this;

Lees
McKinney
Gay
Bedingham
Rhodes
Stokes
O Robinson
Aldridge
Raine
L Robinson
Parkinson

Rhodes to replace Clark to add an extra option to a weakened bowling attack, especially as Stokes could be limited to the amount of overs he can bowl in his first game back.
