Disneyland Paris…

Our £600 half board deal wasn't in school hols as it was before they started. Good deal though. Trains on top like, but it was only about £800 all in.
 

About 20 years ago my 10 year old son won a competition in Scotland ( The Daily Record Paper ) for everything, flights ,acommodation ,passes etc..for a family of four.
I am sure it has changed massively , we had a good time but remember thinking after the event , not sure i would have been impressed if paying the going rate. I think £1700 ish at the time.
 
She’s got me pricing up driving at the minute incase flights get cancelled.

£220 petrol
£250 ferry
£35+ tolls

Urgh.

Is it easier to ferry Sheilds to Amsterdam and drive that instead? You can go the night before and get some kip, then drive direct to France?

Just checked, its 6hours drive. Its 3hrs from Calais anyway. So you miss out the entire UK drive to Dover for the sake of 3hrs extra driving the next day?
More expensive though, I guess.

I've driven to Dover and took the ferry. Its a massive amount of driving on day 1, then a crap nights sleep somewhere on the south coast, then you're on the go again first thing to get the ferry crossing sorted, then off the boat, then driving another 3 hours.
I've done the ferry to Amsterdam (literally the year after ^^) and it was chilled out - quick trip to the boat, nice meal, couple of pints - same shit sleep of course - but then off the boat and a 3hr drive, which felt totally fine, whereas the drive to DLP was a bit of a knacker as we'd already been on the go for 3hours.

I know it costs more, but that first day driving the length of England is a PITA - AND you have to do it again on the way back!

As @PTR says, get the ferry from North Shields or Hull to Amsterdam. A drive down to Dover, then another 3.5 hours to Paris the other side is an absolute killer and if you have kids they will need a break somewhere, makes sense to do that on the ferry while you are moving.
 
To counter the drive to the south coast argument, personally we find it an easy drive to Folkestone and the drive in France the next day is even easier.
 
Spent last night going through the final resort scenario.

Sunderland to Dover. Stay at a hotel in Marina. Has free cancellation up to a date. Ferry over next day.
Drive towards future scope.
Stay a night near. Futurscope next day. Leave park drive to Disney sante fe.
Spend our days there.
Drive home.

I don’t mind the drive. Done Paultons park a few times down there. Few drives to LHR too. Back after a flight a chore.

Heathrow. Driven there a good few times for flights. I don’t mind the drive. Drives home are chores though. I’m imagining I’ll be done in driving home from Paris.
