It was great around market Square aswell with the African music. Actually made me proud of Sunderland

I was at the Darlington food festival yesterday. It was fairly decent but not a patch on the one held in Sunderland.

Looking forward to this year's

Just a reminder events like this take business away from hospitality venues in the city centre who need your support more than ever. Most aren’t local traders either so money going out of the city

They bring visitors into the city centre, which I'm all for it.

Like yesterday we went to the food market but ended up in the indoor market for a couple of pints and some food from the local vendors.

Darlington was busy

As a counter to that, some of the traders are local business who attend all the local events, these business are worth supporting and this event is a massive earner for them and will help them expand.

I don’t know about this specific event but generally councils monitor/calculate impact on local economy and sustainability quite robustly to ensure a net gain for the local economy so it may in fact be positive for local businesses.

Are you suggesting we boycott it ?

I would imagine a lot of people, especially those with kids, won't be taking any trade away from pubs and restaurants as they wouldn't be going to them either way
