SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

Went down to Wolverhampton with the usual group on the train. Had a great day out despite not being able to go to the match.

Away days for me for the rest of my life is just going to consist of travelling away, spending time in a pub whilst people go to the match.

I’ve just put a higher value on spending time with family and friends who I’ve got to know over numerous years.

Was a cracker yesterday, very smooth and everyone in good spirits

The train from Carlisle to Sunderland takes an absolute age mind

Was a good laugh though from Carlisle back to Sunderland.

I asked Northern on the way over if they could “hold” the 20:00 from Carlisle to allow people to get home earlier. In fairness to Northern (the conductor I spoke to emailed his manager and made the request to help everyone) they acted on the request due to the numbers involved and they doubled capacity on the 20:00 from a 2 carriage train to a 4 carriage train. Unfortunately, the 17:32 Avanti from Wolverhampton to Carlisle was delayed so the delay request wasn’t able to be activated.

Are you still banned from going ?

Yes, banned from attending games. 2 year away ban which meant lifetime ban essentially as I’d drop to virtually 0 points so wouldn’t be able to get a ticket even when allowed. I therefore haven’t renewed my season ticket for next season as didn’t see the point.

Still travelling to help out the rest of the group to get to games.

Should’ve been given a free legends way stone, not a ban.

I honestly think that's fair enough. They've offered a box for several seasons free of charge and are still offering a package for a few games. It's a decent compromise for me.

Nothing stays the same forever Keith does it, organizations review their charitable activity all the time.
A lot of people won’t agree with the principle that if a revenue generating asset is being compromised by something being given away, that they should review it and rejig things.
Remembering that they couldn’t give away boxes for the previous 10 years, had that been different this conversation would have been earlier

What’s all wrong with this is the ham fisted way they have done it.

No apparent consultation, no attempt to explain why directly via media from the club, no communication on the overall match day charitable activity. No creativity as to how the box could have been retained but financed by fans and corporate.

If they didn’t want to have all their eggs in the BLF they could have then allocated the box across several chosen local charities.

That they should have facilities to accommodate charities close to the fans, community and clubs hearts should be a non negotiable. An area which is written off from generating revenue. Maybe if we had enough boxes it would be a box… but IT certainly should be a room.

David Bruce would have found a way to make it work for charity and club, before releasing it to the press as a step-up in the clubs efforts for support the community.

It's no surprise that he helped have Hillsborough energised, focussed and optimistic yesterday despite the season they've had.

This is just the start like of maximising all revenue. Fully expecting a percentage of away tickets going to a ballot etc and it being a paid privilege with the new membership scheme.
Its what the closed shop brigade want but they won't like it when their £50 membership gets them three or four aways a season at most.

I'd have to seriously consider whether I wanted to continue with aways if the only way to access away tickets was with a membership on top of having a season ticket plus loyalty points

People who moan about a 'closed shop' aren't the type to pull out for a membership fee.
