I’m old enough to remember August 2025

So, over the last six games:

8pts - Palace, Fulham
7pts - Us, Brentford, Everton, Villa
6pts - Mags
3pts - Chelsea

All except Villa in the mix with us. That's seven of the ten teams clustered from 6th to 15th and separated by 8pts. Not sure what all the whinging is about.

With three games to go, the rankings could fluctuate quite a bit but the negatives seem to assume that it will only be us that struggles to finish out the season.

The good old days when the cry was, it could be a struggle, so we will need to get behind the team and support them.

It’s never been a struggle, a newly promoted side that came up via the play offs have never been anywhere near the relegation zone.

Yet some, are throwing their toys, out of the pram all over the place.

They are the usual suspects, nothing will ever please them, if I’m honest, it boils my piss.
Absolutely spot on.
I stopped looking on the match day thread a long time ago for that reason.
I reckon a lot of them are either closet mags or just have a negative disposition towards life in general.
Either way it is pretty sad.

The reactions since around February (Liverpool and Fulham at home onwards) have been so disappointing imo. It was interesting when the Talksport story broke about possibly replacing RLB, the reactions from neutrals was that it would be utter insanity. If the rest of the country saw the meltdowns every time we drop points we'd be the laughing stock.

What we would have given for a pretty dull, average and competent premier league season not long ago. we haven't been so comfortable for about 15 years

We would have all snapped hands off for 17th, anyone who says otherwise is lying, it's OK to have concerns and dissappointments and we wouldn't be sunlun fans without fears, but the inability to look at the bigger picture and remain excited is absolutely baffling
As you say, pre season the general consensus was "I'd snap your hands off if we could finish 17th on goal difference and not get hammered by the visitors". We've over achieved on this massively, yet everytime we get a bad result the players/manager are deemed not good enough by some.
We have to look at the overall season (that is after all the point of a league system, where your final position is strongly indicative of how good you have been relative to all the other teams and not just on the last few results), and not be so reactive to a recent run of results that haven't gone our way.
I felt at for the first part of the season we were getting the rub of the green with a relatively easy start allowing us to build momentum, with decisions and deflections going our way, and these have evened out over the second half of the season.
Ending the season on a dip, will mean that there is no chance of any complacency, and resting on their laurels with regards to our summer recruitment, and what is needed to improve. So there is a positive to take from this as well.

This made me go back and read some of the threads from August 2025

I don't thibk today is too bad given we were playing with 10 for 55mins. Last week though...
Forest is the only game in recent weeks I've been disappointed. If Ballard wasn't sent off we win easily yesterday. Overall it's a good season. We are going to miss out on Europe but in August, you would be delighted to sitting in 12th with 47pts with 3 games to go.

Back in August. We were up against 6 teams with champions league revenue, 17 teams that were established after a minimum of 3 consecutive seasons in the prem and alongside 2 newly promoted sides that had both hit the 100 point mark.

We came up via the play offs.

It looked daunting but we were safe by March and never really felt threatened with the prospect of relegation. It’s been a great season.

I mean, apart from turning us around post Beale/Dodds shambles into a promotion winning team, then having us safe by March, with a double over the mags and still in with an outside shot of Europe with 3 games to go, what has RLB actually achieved?

We won a point away from home yesterday

At the beginning of the season, many people predicted we would struggle to win 10 points all season

Yet we can add the point we won yesterday to the 46 that we have already won

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I haven’t forgotten about all the bad times and I am thoroughly enjoying this season.
The positives have far outweighed the negatives

Isn’t about about 5 years since we lost to Lincoln in the plays offs?
