From what I saw the lads hair was in the middle of his back. If he's trying to grab his shirt then how does he manage to grab his hair in that manner?

Looks pretty intentional to me.

I'm not sure what I make of the rule, but I see it as a needless and stupid thing to do currently.

he's looking at the play and trying to grab the player around the collar, which is completely allowed in the game...the hair is covering parts of the uniform that's allowed to be grabbed...it's bullshit that it's a red. Hair covering uniform parts allowed to be grabbed should be treated as part of the uniform....otherwise every team should trot out players with hair down to their knees
