SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

Burwell making all of the unpopular decisions so the new fella can come in without having a record of pissing the fans off?

People really should’ve seen this stuff coming when they handed over the BCB to the mags and we were told we overreacted to that.

The facility had been used to host disadvantaged families, providing matchday experiences that would otherwise have been out of reach. Over time, it became a central part of the foundation’s supporting children and families facing serious illness. Under revised arrangements, Sunderland will continue to offer hospitality access to the Bradley Lowery Foundation in a different format. This will include a table of 10 for six fixtures across the season in the Montgomery Suite, allowing the charity to host up to 12 families.

The club has also offered two additional games for smaller groups of four, in the Boardroom or the Charlie Hurley Suite, providing a quieter setting for more vulnerable children. The Echo understands that while the executive box arrangement has come to an end, Sunderland have indicated they will continue to support the foundation in other ways where possible. Gemma Lowery, Bradley’s mother and co-founder of the charity, said the change marked the end of an era but welcomed the club’s ongoing backing when contacted by The Echo.

“It is sad to see the box go, as it really does mark the end of an era in Bradley’s name,” she said. “That said, I am incredibly grateful to everyone at Sunderland for continuing to support us in other ways. I’m really pleased that we can still offer a hospitality experience to families because over the years, it has been so special to see who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity enjoy such an amazing day.”

It's really disappointing they've changed it at all but the end of the article suggests they're still supporting the family and the family are happy with it.
What are they meant to say though?

Yes anything is better than nothing but to just take it away with what seems like no consultation with the BLF whatsoever is a disgrace. At the very least they could have given them first refusal

They've done so much good over the last few years to then start pulling stunts like this to sell a box for what, less than two weeks wages for one of the first teamers. We make 25 times the cost of a box for every place higher we finish in the table. £100k to a club with a turnover north of £100m is nothing

Agreed yeah. One thing that's been consistent with the owners of the club is that they want to maximise every single penny of revenue where they can. It's great for the football club but is coming at a huge cost reputationally.

Leaves a bad taste for the sake of £100k or whatever a box costs for the season.

I daresay that the players would probably have offered to have a whip-round to cover the cost if they had been aware this was going to happen.

No comment on the foundation being willing to pay for the box but not given the chance. Sounds like Gemma is being very magnanimous with the club
Very pragmatic from her, no doubt thinking of the poor families going through a terrible time and not wishing to ruin the relationship with the club, even though they have acted like money grabbing twats.

Really awful news, this.

You have the lad in question on this thread, one in the other thread who is being put on the waiting list if he doesn’t stump-up again for a corporate offering that isn’t even corporate after 35 years a season ticket holder, myself last year - similar time a ST holder, loads of other instances and now this utter aberration which was a fantastic gesture towards seriously ill little’uns.

We keep hearing about this connection between the club and fans and yet, in my opinion, it’s never been further apart and will continue to grow - unless you're a foreign fan or celebrity that they can use for social media. Is this really what SAFC is about?

Believe a box is 'only £50k' not the £100k being banded about on this thread. Im fairly sure we as fans could have quite easily supported that every season. I know i would have put money in each season to help fund it.

Clearly giving a professional response so that it isnt a case of cutting the charities nose off so to speak

They want to be careful, history suggests that we might not be in the top league for a long time
I'm glad the club have offered something but I can't see it working tbh. Young kids want to play, climb on things etc, some probably don't even watch the game and stay in the box on ipad, go back inside if too cold, while their parents can enjoy the game. Really not sure how that will all work with using the Montgomery Suite.
exactly, let’s put poorly children out in the cold

And that’s what will cost them more longer term, reputation and good will, all for what will be buttons in the grand scheme of things

This will be my next fundraiser for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.
