This isn’t the worst rule like. Too many players would be walking a tightrope for receiving soft yellows early in the tournament. No-one wants to see the worlds best players missing World Cup matches for sometimes practically no reason at all.

What’s Trump got to do with it as well? It’s not like there’s not tweaks in rules at most tournaments.
 
Red card for covering the mouth (when speaking) is a bit extreme.

It’s a shite habit, that I can also understand why they do it when there’s constantly a camera on you & you’re viral before you get into the changing room.

However this looks like an attempt to stop certain language, racist at a guess & pleading innocent cos it’s one word against another with no video evidence. I mean, in truth, if you’re playing a game of football in front of millions & you’re disguising racist abuse it’s extremely calculated & a right twat of a thing to do.

It won’t be enforced though, like you say it’s now just habit so if we play Spain or Brazil in a knock out game and Bellingham is talking to one of his Madrid team mates (another superstar) and they both do it as that seems natural to them no way will both be sent off.

The yellow card rule has been changed due to financial reasons so they won’t then want a top player missing a knock out game either.

Why do you think this is specifically a Trump request?

The way I look at it is FIFA are covering their arses because of the alleged racism from Prestianni covering his mouth in the UCL and Senegal walking off the pitch during AFCON. They had no rules in place and now they do.

Multiple yellows equals ban was a daft rule. Players potentially missing games due to getting a yellow the previous game is just shite, especially nowadays when players can get yellows for nowt. You ask any fan and they’d agree it was a daft rule for tournament football.

Does zero harm highlighting it & hoping it prevents at least one person trying it.

I agree with that part but racists are still going to be racist sadly. I just think it'll be the same as the added time rule introduction or the wrestling in the box, its used for a couple of games and then everything goes back to 'normal'.

It wont stop racists being racist they will just make it look like a natural rubbing of their face as they whisper a word as they never shout it anyway as they are too scared to be honest with their thoughts. Really if FIFA want to stop racist abuse they should come down hard on social media, really punish clubs/countries that have racist fans, ban players for multiple years. This just seems like a o look we are trying but it wont solve anything.

They said it's at the referee's discretion, no ref is going to be sending players off just for talking to each other.

That's not correct. They'll still get a ban if they pick up two bookings. It's just that if they've only got one booking by each cut off point then that booking will get wiped out.

Players will need to pick up bookings in two of the three group games, or in two of the last 32, last 16 and the quarter-finals, to miss a match.

Players will still miss a semi if they pick up two bookings in the previous knock out rounds,with the second of the two bookings coming in the quarter final match.

And there is the issue, it won’t change anything. They can maybe retrospectively ban players after the match if they believe they’ve done it to hide abuse but that’ll be appealed every time as they’ll then use examples where they’ve done it and spoke to mates the same way. It solves nothing, just easy words.

Was thinking that. Not sure what people are complaining about.
Players missing the most important games of their career because an opponent has thrown himself down in front of then.

Sounds like anti-Trump derangement syndrome.
The bloke's a knacker who threatened to invade Canada. But should be gone because he got rid of the draft yellow card rule in the world cup :lol:

Truth is these days you can easily be carded for farting in the wrong direction.
